Sad day for Democracy

GA is sorry that 5th Ward candidate Melissa Blanco who was "taking a stand for state and federal laws" was disqualified from the race on Friday.

Hudson County View reported that Blanco "did not have enough valid signatures from registered voters in her ward."

Should that matter?

Ms. Blanco's platform: obedience to state and federal law, should exempt her from obedience to state and federal law- especially the stupid ones.  Like those about so-called "valid" signatures.  Ms. Blanco needed 59 "valid" signatures (1% of registered voters in her ward)- she collected 80!

HCV wrote:  "Blanco stated all of her 80 signatures submitted were valid by New Jersey case law...

Of course, they were.

The 5th Ward council person governs ALL 5th Ward residents- adults, children, their pets. If you can stick a pen in it's paw, it's valid. And dead people- they pay taxes, too. Ever hear of "estate tax?"  Duh.

I believe Ms. Blanco should peacefully protest the City Clerk's decision- maybe a march on City Hall, with her allies in the Carmelo Garcia camp.  Blanco spoke eloquently on behalf of Garcia when the HHA board met at City Hall on August 4, 2014.  Here is the transcript:

Melissa Blanco will be missed.  I hope Ms. Blanco continues to speak truth to power in Hoboken.

It is a sad, sad day for Democracy when toddlers, dogs, cats and the dead don't have a voice in their government.

We can, we will, watch us!

    1. I understand that 5th Ward candidate Eduardo Gonzalez shares Melissa's passion for the Constitution, and just like Eduardo, believes the Zimmer admin defies state and federal law. I believe Eduardo needs Melissa to campaign for him in the 5th Ward, he really does. Ms. Blanco can make the difference in the 5th ward race. If Ms. Blanco reads this, Eduardo is quite modest... he won't ask for your help, you may need to force yourself on his campaign. I believe he is looking for a communications director.

If Ms. Blanco is allowed to rectify the signatures problem, then hopefully she can run. If not, Eduardo would welcome her onboard. She CAN, she WILL, watch her make a difference!!! Go Melissa!!!!

  6. Melissa the People's MandateSeptember 7, 2015 at 7:29 AM

Melissa Blanco is not going to be wished away. She is the People's Mandate. This is just another example of power brokers like James Farina being afraid of democracy.

But power broker James Farnina is fighting the wrong lioness this time! Melissa will prevail in court and the People shall have their Say!

    1. Agreed. Eduardo is a champion for state and federal rights, and unlike Jimmy Farina and Mayor Zimmer, Mr. Gonzales is a fan of democracy. Ms. Blanco should use her communication skills to spread the news in the 5th ward: Eduardo will bring democracy to Hoboken.

  9. As for Ms. Blanco, anyone connected to Carmelo Garcia cannot possibly be good for the people of Hoboken. With respect to the City Clerk, Jimmy Farina is smart enough to know that he could not arbitrarily turn down legitimate signatures. He never has and never will.

  10. Oh Lord! Did anyone see her hilarious public update on her defective signatures?
    She is seriously nutty.
