Monarch Man

Beth Mason's departure from the scene won't stop a tsunmai of loot from washing into Hoboken's municipal election.

The signs are already there.

5th Ward candidate Eduardo Gonzales is pitching the transfer of open space on the BASF site for "residential towers."  More precisely, he repeated a developer's proposal from the City's confidential negotiations with BASF.

Are developers speaking directly to Gonzalez?

One thing is certain.  Gonzales has taken the developer's side; he's NOT advocating for the public good, but for developer profit.  Does over-crowded, densely populated Hoboken need "two residential towers" more than it needs a 6-acre park?  Who is he kidding?

GA can't wait to hear the Dark Side's opposition to a rooftop municipal pool...

Oh, rooftop pools are great when developers provide them on luxury buildings, like the one going up on Willow and 14th, or the proposed Monarch.

Speaking of the Monarch,  2nd Ward candidate Peter Biancamano won't be demanding the Barrys make good on their promise of open recreational space instead of (2) 11-story waterfront TOWERS. Candidate Biancamano is very, very careful with his words about the Monarch project.  Here is what he wrote recently in The Hoboken Reporter:
"In too many instances, communication between the administration and the community has been lost. The residents of the Tea Building and the community as a whole deserve to know all the details regarding the Monarch project."
Rhetorical Fluffernutter.

Clearly Biancamano aims at low-information voters because everyone else knows "the community" has been FIGHTING with the Zimmer administration AGAINST the Monarch project since at least 2011... and 2nd Ward Candidate Tiffanie Fisher has been there on the front lines.

Here is what Tiffanie Fisher wrote 1 1/2 years ago in The Hoboken Reporter:
"In 1997, Applied signed a Developer’s Agreement with the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Planning Board for its Shipyard Planned Urban Development which covers the area east of Hudson St. and north of 12th street. Under this agreement, a number of buildings were to be (and have been) built, with the last block to be developed as open space, tennis courts, and parking... In May 2011, only after it realized substantial profits from the completion of all of the buildings at the Shipyard, Applied announced that it no longer intended to build the open space as previously agreed."
Are those enough "details regarding the Monarch project" for Peter Biancamano?

All of the above is why GA expects targeted infusions of developer money in the 2nd and 5th Wards. Stuff that won't show up on ELECs. Mailers from pop-up citizen's groups from out-of-town, print ads, even ads on cable TV.  The Dark Side's monied friends are counting on Biancamano and Gonzalez to give them control of the Council.

Speaking of campaign loot, GA took an ELEC stroll on the Dark Side.

All candidates have opened up a D-1  except for Michael Russo and Frank Raia.   Interestingly, Eduardo Gonzalez has left the Chairman position blank, provided no day/evening telephone numbers, and his campaign Treasurer lives in Clifton, NJ.

For inquiring minds... here is the 'first' Hoboken Democratic Committee ELEC report filed under  Romano-Russo control.  It shows zero monetary receipts for this quarter.

Stay tuned. By the way...

GA hears Freeholder/ Democratic Committee Chairman Anthony Romano  has declared "war" on Reform.

Oh, dear.

  1. Peter B. isn't as dumb as he looks, he knows that real estate developers in Hoboken have taken care of him in the past and if he shills for them they will continue to take care of him.

    4. I hear developers are putting at least one fomer councilpeople who are involved in real estate on their payroll to help move their projects forward and give PR/marketing advice.

It's a shame that someone would do this.

  3. I'll bet Peter at some point soon starts touting a "solution" for Monarch (straight from the mouth of Applied) like Eduardo's magic "solution" for BASF that would get us a "free" park in exchange for some giant residential high rises.

Maybe Peter will propose giving Applied some giant development somewhere else in Hoboken, in exchange for agreeing once again to build "for fake free" the tennis courts they already agreed to build "for fake free."

Basically proposing that Hoboken residents pay twice for the amenity they were told was "free."

The 2nd ward would get back its promise of tennis courts and residents somewhere in western Hoboken would get some spanking giant new buildings with 1000 or so new residents.

I'll bet Eduardo would sign on even if the development payoff was in his ward!

  4. Wait a minute... the OG's rap on Reform (and blogs) is we are divisive.... but Romano declares "war" on us?????

Isn't "war" divisive? Why is OUR Freeholder declaring "war" on US??

      Wtf does that mean?

  5. Biancamano also said he never forgot where he came from. There's nothing more divisive than the tribalism reflected in that statement.

The guy forgot to utter a word when his buddy John Corea was convicted of stealing $1 million in quarters. He forgot to utter a word when the hospital was about to shut down possibly throwing the city into bankruptcy. He forgot to utter a word when the mayor whose election he supported was arrested then convicted of taking bribes. He forgot to utter a word as our County taxes shot through the roof. He forgot to take a position on the Monarch project through not one but now two city council races.

Maybe he remembers where he came from but when it comes to speaking out on the critically important issues Hoboken has faced over the past few years that seems to be the only thing he remembers.

He doesn't even write his own stuff.

  7. So Peter wants to "get along" yet he surrounds himself with people declaring "war". He claims he cares about stability for school children yet wants to elect Waiters and Madigan to the BOE. I get he is trying to fool the newbies, but the B&R are smarter than that!

Who does he think he is kidding? They know more than anyone that they have been lied to over and over and over again. Where's their pool? their affordable housing? Their Community center?

    Same old BS.

But you knew that. You guys love trolling on GA and it's cool that you do because we get to see how devoid of any possible position for anyone with any idea on what's gone on in this town for years to vote for any of your darksider friends.

  10. in the Hudson County View video, Romano not only declares "war" on those not aligned with Biancamano, which is to say those who are tired of corruption, grafting and self dealing, but he makes reference to the condition of Washington Street, while Russo and Castellano lurk in the background. He doesn't bother to mention that these same partners in spin voted down forgivable grants to improve Washington Street (the council needed a super-majority).

  11. Peter will never forget where he came from. He learned well under Raia's wing. He's go it down pat. Smile, talk a good game and hand out the free (hot dog, coffee cake, cheese or t-shirt) while never, ever forgetting who is paying the bill.

I hope all the nice neighborhood people in that room enjoy that t-shirt when Peter adds a few extra 100 condos to the neighborhood. They can wear it to the pool and baseball field that same crew promised when Maxwell Place was built....oh...what?

  12. A lot of people don't think I am running a real campaign. Well wait til they see THIS!

That's right. One of the many, many, so many reasons to vote for me and my real campaign: If elected I will be posting links to the city's web site.

How's that for some real results, eh?

Every day constituents walk up to me on the street. They continue walking because they don't know I'm a candidate. But if they did know, guess what they would say?

"Hey, Bonnie, you are running a real campaign and all. I sure wish my councilgal would post links to the city's website. I've almost given up hope. Is that something you could ever do?"

Well, yes, it is, Mr Long-suffering voter who doesn't know I'm running a real campaign and not just siphoning off a few soccer mom votes to hand the election to that nice Mr Biancamano. In fact there's your PROOF!

In the coming weeks it will become even more clear that I am not just in this race as a spoiler in exchange for future 'support' for my husband who, as has been amply demonstrated, can't win an election any other way. That's because I'll be really going on the offensive against that nice Mr Biancamano.

I'll say things like, "Well those points in that nice Mr Biancamano's campaign flier are absolutely spot-on - but that font could have been better."

And the devastating "Like that nice Mr Biancamano, I too think the voters just need more information about Monarch. But I will insist on a first rate font to do it!"

Oh, the gloves are comin' off! But please give that nice Mr Biancamano every consideration if you aren't voting for me. Such a nice man!

    ReplyDelete
  13. When Biancamano says the community "deserves to know the details about Monarch" he sounds like a salesman for the project. Like, if the community only knew the "details" we'd support the Monarch towers, and somehow the "administration" has withheld these shiny "details."

Biancamano's premise is dumb, the "details" are in the newspaper and public documents, all public. Biancamano is supposed to know it, but thats what pitchmen do.

  14. Biancamano is playing both ends against the middle

Monarch = Big $ for developers and day laborers paid in cash.

  15. Monarch is a great project and all you reformers cry because you going to lose your views. That's prime land and my prediction is within the next 3-4 you will see a building there. Don t be surprises if it call Monarch/Trump Towers.

    1. Broken promises aren't so great, and the Shipyard developer who built on that "prime land" signed a Developer's Agreement with the City of Hoboken for that block to be open, recreational space with parking. It's ironic how much contempt a developer can have for the people who buy their units and line their pockets with money.

Well, 2nd Ward candidate Biancamano seems to agree with you.

    2. Anon 8:24 am, I am not sure why I am even responding to you but you do understand that the land that the Barry's and Biancamano want the Monarch built on was promised to be a park after the Barry's were given all sorts of variances so they could build the Shipyard. Do you get that most basic point? Or are you just here for trolling? Cause that prime land is pretty much tumbling into the river
