This just came in GA's Inbox:
Attached is the flyer I got today from Beth Mason.  It's a  really nice gesture to give out free coffee and donuts so I made a bunch of copies (about a hundred) and gave them out at the homeless shelter. Someone asked me what kind of donuts but I didn't know. You can share this with your readers.

  1. not surprising, eugene is in with the masons, they're often at elysian. too bad, it's one way to spoil the place.

all the commuters who catch the bus at wash/12th to the path station should pop in, grab their free coffee and donuts and immediately walk out to the bus stop.

  2. We received several flyers today--in our mailbox. Illegal as it may be since they were not bearing postage. Here is the USPS reg:
    .1.3 Use for Mail
Except under 3.2.11, the receptacles described in 3.1.1 may be used only for matter bearing postage. Other than as permitted by 3.2.10, or 3.2.11, no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle. Any mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by mail.

  3. DOLLARS TO DONUTS:

18 U.S.C. 1725 states: "Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits any mailable matter such as statements of accounts, circulars, sale bills, or other like matter, on which no postage has been paid, in any letter box established, approved, or accepted by the Postal Service for the receipt or delivery of mail matter on any mail route with intent to avoid payment of lawful postage thereon, shall for EACH such offense be fined under this title"

Violation of this provision is an infraction, carrying a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual, or not more than $10,000 for an organization.

    $10,000 for EACH offense? Wow!

How many uptown residents received these, some multiple copies. 10k per each offense would go a long way to help an ailing postal service.

    Anyone know the Hoboken Postmaster?
