The "Faithful Four" And the Price of Obstruction

OUCH! Tim got an anemic 481 votes in his OWN Ward!

YIKES! Tim got FEWER votes than ALL At-Large candidates except Montgomery (-45) and Waiters (-336)!

Well, folks, tonight's City Council meeting should be interesting.

One need only to look as far as Hoboken411 to see how any Reform agenda item will be spun by the 'Faithful Four" obstructionists before they vote "NO".

But here's what is interesting.

The only member of the "Faithful Four" to appear on the ballot last month was Tim Occhipinti

How was Tim rewarded for his 'faithful" obstruction?  (You know, his litany of  'NO' votes, some accompanied by grandstanding, petulant rants, and insulting Corporation Counsel to the point where she gave him legal notice.)

Remember Tim's 'NO' votes squandered free' grant money to repair our roads, kept Doyle off the City Council which prevented critical board appointments, delayed Pier C park repairs and reopening after Sandy, delayed opening 1600 Park by voting down bonding for a new traffic light, hurt our HOP bus system by voting 'NO' to replace storm-damaged buses, allowed a $3M County Grant to expire by voting 'NO' on acquisition of land for the Southwest Park, tried to 'kill'  the hospital sale, blew a $4.6 Million dollar hole in our surplus by voting 'NO' on a FREE garage bond conversion... and that's far from all.

The 4th Ward was the hardest hit by flooding from Superstorm Sandy with some areas under 5 feet of water. I am sure some in his Ward recall his opposition to $2.5M additional emergency appropriations after Sandy along with his remarks arguing against the interests of Hoboken flood victims:

Tim: We don't have a guarantee we're going to get a specific number from FEMA but once we go out and buy these items, we have to pay for them, one way or another... the taxpayers will foot the bill for what we don't get from FEMA.  We've already gone out for 4 point-something million... another 2.65 million.  My question is is that... some of these items could possibly hold till we know exactly where we are to be reimbursed... there's only so much money that can come from the Federal government... they've gotta bring it from somewhere... the entire Jersey shore coastline was almost destroyed... we had some very terrible devastation ourselves but we're not facing the structural damage of an entire town washed away.

Giatino: speak for yourself.  Im sorry.
It is any wonder that his own constituents can't stand him?

The certified vote totals in his own Ward tell the story.  Tim scored a last place finish in his own Ward.   And 17% of the total votes cast citywide.

Yes, his campaign was lousy.  Yes, it was infested with MOLES.  But the fact that Timmy did not- could not- connect with his OWN voters is a seismic wake-up call.

Back to Hoboken411.  Remember that cyber-tabloid has been the online venue for the Beth Mason's political operations, propaganda and 'home' for pro-Mason anonymous bloggers.  So, tonight will we see if there is daylight between the strident, anti-Administration obstructionism telegraphed today on Hoboken411 and Tim Occhipinti.

Specifically, the Council is proposing a 2-week moratorium on all municipal garage parking fees, a boost to local businesses, restaurants and bars during the Season to Eat, Drink and Shop.  The proposed time frame in December 20- January 2.

On the Council agenda: proposed  'FREE' municipal garage parking dates (in yellow)

Hoboken411's spin on this terrific proposal (and presumably that of the "Faithful Obstructionists")  is "WTF"?  His, um...'point': it's too late to shop, will encourage drunk driving.

Well, I suppose Christmas shopping began on Black Friday.  Is the City supposed to offer 6 weeks of free parking?  How would Hoboken make up that lost revenue?

GA thinks the proposed 'free parking' falls over a 2 week period during which most folks take time off, and schools are closed- a perfect time to come to Hoboken, stand on a 5-hour line to shop at Carlos' bakery, then eat in one of Hoboken's terrific restaurants AND do more shopping!

So, we'll see tonight which Obstructionists trash-talk this great idea that will help our local economy,  or if at least one of them has learned from the Trouncing of Tim.

  1. Another interesting tidbit from this data is that Dave Mello actually got the most votes in the 4th ward even though Ramos beat Zimmer by almost 150 votes. The absentees voted the line but it seems that 1/2 of the folks in the HHA who voted for Ramos on the machines didn't vote for Ramos's ticket including even Eduardo.

    1. Zimmer cleaned up in 4-5 where I was challenging. It wasn't even close.

All in all, she did very well in the 4th, won most districts, except got creamed in 4-3 and 4-4, and of course, the mail-ins.

    2. If you exclude the projects and absentees (most of which are from the projects) Zimmer kicked butt in the 4th ward but that's kind of like saying Zimmer the sky is blue or the earth is round. And obviously the votes in the projects count just as much as everyone else's.

It's actually surprising that Ramos and TimO got as many votes as they did in the 4th ward districts without subsidized housing - pretty much the old 4-2, now 4-1,4-2 and 4-5). Back in 2007 Zimmer got pretty much all those votes. This time she got only 65%. TimO got 21% in a district where votes had to be earned not purchased which is actually not bad considering that those are Zimmer's neighbors, she's been on the 4th ward ballot 7 times now and those voters know her better than anyone.

  2. Again I repeat what I said at the previous city council meeting. I feel in my heart that there were back room deals cut with all parties involved. Team Zimmer already knew they were going to win long before the first vote/ absentee ballot was cast! Poopie and Tim were stooges, just like rodeo clowns that are used to divert attention from the real show. Team Zimmer’s reelection. It behooves me to see how supposedly decent, upright citizens, in this case DENIZENS allow themselves to be used. For what? What is the value placed on self respect? Does their self respect come that cheap? Evidently! Had they not sucked precious votes( like vampires sucking precious blood) away from Ramos, It is a fact that team Ramos WOULD HAVE WON! As long as politicians can sell themselves U.S. politics will continue to be corrupt! Now here is a radical idea, TAKE ALL MONEY OUT OF POLITICS! Yeah, and it could be done! This would undoubtedly change the whole landscape of politics, and I wouldn’t doubt that there would be less people running for office! Question: what happens to that novice politician with high ideals bent on changing the scene in federal, state, and local offices? Especially those going into Washington! Somewhere after being sworn in that idealistic novice loses steam and soon becomes like the status quo! And not much later they cut under handed deals posing as upright bills! Bobby Kennedy once said, before it’s all said and done, everybody goes to bed with everybody! Young, once idealistic novice congressmen and senators a like become disgusted, and disenchanted with the scene. And either fade out or become shady! I feel if money is taken away and completely out of politics you will see a new outlook across the board.

    1. I don't know what rock you crawled out from under, but thank the LORD above that "Team Ramos" did NOT win. You didn't indicate when or how long you became a "Super Fan" of Ramos, but let me be VERY clear here.

Reuben Ramos sat on the council for 10 years. I suggest you do your research and find out just how much incredible damage Ramos, Cammarano, Campos, Russo, Castellano did to Hoboken. How much incredible damage those did to the Housing Authority. They are using YOU. I might I add, if you are a HHA resident you are using US by living off the dole. As far as many are concerned you are seen as a leech, a bloodsucker, bum, freeloader, and when you get up to that podium there is not ONE word you can utter that any of the educated moral council people on that dais believe. You step up there, the moans and laughter are heard around the globe, "Here we go. This dope thinks he is going to change our minds. BAHAHAHAH!!" You are simply not credible, a complete laughing stock.

As for Bobby Kennedy and fam, they were the dirtiest bunch and set the stage for modern day politics. Chris Campos was arrested for DUI and tried to use his position to weasel out of his offense. Cammarano was arrested by the FBI for accepting bribes, Russo was caught on FBI tape arranging dirty deals, Castellano is on tape covering up the $1,000,000 quarter theft - "It's been cleared up". These are the offenses they were fingered on, clearly they are guilty of much more.

You and your crew are fooling no one. You are just a poor fool.

Yes, I will check out your writings.

  4. should we HHA lose any of our faithful four, that will not detour our resolve to have New housing units built. even if we lose Director Garcia! positive change is inevitable! We the oppressed by the powers that be can last but so long. Truth and righteousness will prevail! It is said that the pen in mightier then the sword. But! the thought behind the pen is even mightier! YES thought, and the law of attraction. The two most powerful actions in all creation! those who control their thoughts and the law of attraction inevitably will control their destiny! one thought, one goal. We can we will watch us!!!

    2. Based upon the most recent election results, most people would say your prediction that "truth and righteousness will prevail" did in fact come true.

  5. Hi Sigbee.

Welcome to the conversation. It is far better when different perspectives are shared rather than everyone just preaching to their own choir.

Can you elaborate on what sort of backroom deal you believe was made and by who?

Also, I believe you as well as many other members of the HHA tenants association spoke out forcefully at City Council meetings about absentee ballots being a type of election fraud. Mr. Ramos ended up with the most absentee ballots, even more than Mr. Occhipinti and Ms. Zimmer got by far the fewest.

How does that fit in with your views on absentee voting? Do you still believe that they are a sign that election fraud is occurring or have you changed your opinion given Mr. Ramos's success in garnering the votes of people who chose to vote by mail?

    2. Compared to congress and some of our state leaders, Hoboken is the Crown Jewel, now having a council that will be able to do an even better job due to the recent election results. It was a widely held belief that Mayor Zimmer would win on her record. As for Tim, 'can you spare a dime'.
