So our city dodged a bullet with the Snookster... and here she is on her first day of filming in Jersey City...

But what will Hoboken look like the Day After, on March 4th?    You know, the day after Leper-Con.

You haven't heard of it?

Leper-con is the newly-created bar crawl to honor the life of St. Patrick.

St. Patrick facts:

Patrick preached the Gospel throughout Ireland, converting many. He and his disciples preached and converted thousands and began building churches all over the country. Kings, their families, and entire kingdoms converted to Christianity when hearing Patrick's message. Patrick preached and converted all of Ireland for 40 years. He worked many miracles and wrote of his love for God in Confessions.  Patrick was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission.

Why a shamrock?

I hope you people understand how a bar crawl is the highest form of respect to honor the life of this pious man of G-d.

If you don't, ask David Liebler.  He'll explain it to you.

Now I wish to take this moment on the subject of Hoboken's St. Patrick's Day to apologize to my dear friend Irene and to her family for my words which offended you.  I respect you deeply and the many contributions of your family to Hoboken.
Cha d’dhùin doras nach d’fhosgail doras.

As for Leper-con, the bar-crawl...

Like the similarly-named infectious disease which invades the human body and attacks it's surface (skin), will the leper-con virus invade Hoboken in vast numbers, overwhelming it's immune system (HPD) and flooding it's arteries (streets) with vomit and bodily fluids?

Or... will Leper-con be a bust?

Personally, GA thinks it will be somewhere in the middle- a fraction of the 'usual' turnout compared to  parade day.  But folks will come.

And my gut tells me they'll be better behaved due to the scaled-down celebration.

If not, there's always a cure.

Comments

  1. the best "cure" is zero-tolerance and $2,000 fines. maybe the 70% chance of rain and likelihood of getting booted/towed will keep the out-of-towners away (one can always hope...)

  2. I'll be honest, I'm a little worried about this whole "Lepre-con" thing. This is about bar owners and liquor stores protecting their turf and they're not going down without a fight (anyone else see that appalling full-page ad in the HR from Giannone Wine & Liquor Co in West New York?). Things may be a little quieter this year, but in years to come if they get their act together and start really advertising this beer crawl it could morph into the same stuff we've been seeing over the past few years.

  3. LepreCon will fizzle...go to the organizing website..the best 'deals' these idiots are getting is 'half price off cover charges'...cover charges that only exist for the LepreDerpers in the first place. ANy other saturday afternoon and you have a $0 cover charge...only morons like these would think they are getting a discount. And with the cops not having to bother with street closures and the general disruption a parade down Washington causes, that leaves a lot more manpower to bash heads and send some of these twerps to HUMC with $2000 tickets to go along with a nice medical bill and some stitches. And think of how easy it will be to spot the rabble rousers...just look for the loudmouths with stupid green hats on and let fly the billyclubs! HUMC needs the business. Win win!
