From the Jersey Journal:
Some suspect that minority council members Beth Mason, Theresa Castellano, Michael Russo and Tim Occhipinti may have received the emails. Mason, however, demanded that the names be released, essentially denying wrongdoing.
Castellano and Russo said they did not receive emails from Ricciardi. Occhipinti could not be reached in time for comment.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWhat, a New Jersey Transit bus wasn't good enough to do this hit job?
ReplyDelete"Did not receive emails from Ricciardi."
ReplyDeleteThat's most likely a factual statement.
But it's not one that will get them out of hotwater if they indeed got the emails from a third party. Or, to parse the language even further, perhaps they simply received the "information" contained therein, not the actual emails.
Either way, I don't doubt for a second that MasonRusso were completely in the loop.
You heard it here first and I will back it up once I have it in my hand but it appears "certain" council members have attempted to offer $$$$ to website editors in return for IP information on commenters on local sites. Reportedly the figures offered are 5 figures and confidential agreements are being offered to be inked. Beware where you post!! More to come
ReplyDeleteFred - that wouldn't shock me in the slightest. Sounds like someone is looking to violate even more laws. I'll happily sue the assholes if any of them show up on my doorstep.
ReplyDeleteBTW - I am guessing you are referring to Patch and nj dot com? Those seem most likely to have editors who are pliable for a price.
ReplyDeleteFred Stores, let's talk. Off-the-record or as you wish.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
GA

Fred, I didn't even think of that....money for information....geeessse. The biggest flipper to evil. I just thought the information would give them an edge in a race or contract negotiations.... but selling information is...forgetaboutit..... that's like a spy issue
ReplyDeletepatch is part of AOL, i'm guessing a large, well-known, publicly traded brand like that would have pretty strict company-wide policies to protect against that type of thing. nj.com/jersey journal, on the other hand, strikes me as having a more flexible approach to ethics.
ReplyDeletebut in the end, what would she gain from knowing the identities of members of the public who think she's a jerkoff? she's a public figure, so she can't sue us. is she going to out us at a council meeting? send nick and matty c to knock our heads? pretty petty and childish.
3/4 of the patches are going under mid next year, Hoboken supposedly one of them. While it gets lots of comments it gets virtually no advertising. AOL is a business they want CASHOLA not comments. Look at other patches, no advertising on most of them except for Patch ads. Claire makes maybe 35k at the most, a quick 75k when the site shuts down would make most people grab it, then again I am using Patch as an example.
ReplyDeleteSelling IP info is immoral. not illegal just so you know.
ReplyDeleteselling ip addresses may not be illegal, but it would do serious, perhaps permanent, damage to an online media brand. privacy is a huge issue, so the public backlash would be massive and ad agencies would steer their clients elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone Jam is on the up and up, 50k 75k can change lives for many. For someone struggling and having that money in their head and day in and day out spending it mentally gets to people. At this point I can't say with certainty that it will happen however I am working on it.
ReplyDeletecool, keep us posted, appreciate it.
ReplyDeletebut again, i still don't see what this gets her.
Fred, can you email me and tell me more?
ReplyDeleteI (personally) don't see value in IP addresses, but in the IP-owner information. Because an IP address doesn't lead to a person's identity without permission of their ISP. Most do not give out that kind of info under 'normal' circumstances.
I know that H411 fed registrant names to Lane Bajardi and Jame Barracato who then outed individuals on Hudson Shark. Barracato was, perhaps still is, Mason's webmaster.
Not sure why- if it's Mason- she'd want that kind of information unless it was pure vindictiveness to ruin people who slammed her online. Or perhaps wants to see if anyone in City Hall blogs. That's more likely.
Well, do get in touch. Thx.
JAM, Mason may wish to connect incendiary blog posts with individuals who work in City Hall- that's the only thing I can think of that makes 'sense' knowing her and the pack she runs with. Perhaps she wants to see if City Hall's IP address shows up anywhere. And tie 'embarrassing' posts to the mayor.
ReplyDeleteShe's wasting her time and money, of course.
Fred- I'm pretty sure exchanging IPs /registrant info for cash would be illegal.
GA, at the moment I would prefer to communicate this way. Should and when it develops and if it does I will email you at that point. And yes she probably wants to see if people are blogging within city hall and wants to bash people who talk about her, I would do anything if I was her to shut people up. Amazing she showed up at 14th St mall opening today and stood for pictures next to honest and reliable people.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm

Thanks, Fred.
ReplyDeleteEven I have standards. Would love to throw some sunlight on this if it's really in the works, but for now it's just an unsubstantiated rumor, a juicy one.
So, if and when there's more there, don't hesitate to unload. I'm all ears!
