Jackpot!

Round and round and round spins the Wheel of Justice...

In today's Jersey Journal:

"We have received information within the last 24 hours that evidence we compiled for the basis of the investigation by the Superintendent of Elections has resulted in not just one criminal referral to the Hudson County Prosecutor, but several referrals. At least four," said Councilman-At-Large Ravi Bhalla, attorney for the Lenz campaign.

At least FOUR criminal referrals?

JACKPOT!

Further, the Jersey Journal reports that when the Hudson County Board of Elections convenes next Wednesday for it's regular meeting, a "topic of special interest" will be Hoboken's 4th Ward Election. And Board of Elections Clerk Michael Harper will advertise the meeting due to the volume of public interest.

"At that time, any criminal referrals will be moved on to the prosecutor's office," Harper said.

For anyone who wants to watch the criminal referrals being handed over in real time, the meeting will take place next Wednesday, November 17 at 4 p.m. at the offices of the Board of Elections located in Hudson County Plaza, 257 Cornelison Ave., 4th floor in Jersey City.

So the wheel spins on.

Until the Hudson County prosecutor decides that Hoboken deserves clean elections. Or the AG takes over.

Then, should indictments come down for election fraud or conspiracy to commit election fraud we'll see which members of Team Occhipinti find themselves under 'the ball'.

Ouch.

Anyone care to bet who it might be?

  1. GA

Word is that the midnight club membership is very anxious and nervous. Lots of teeth gnashing, recrimination, eff bombs and anger filling the air all over town. A real happy Crude.

  2. Fair warning: another p1ywood soapbox.

I love ya GA, but just a reminder, let's please keep our head straight. This is not "us and them" this is not "Lenz vs Occhipinti" (BTW, to save the operatives a step, got it, Occhipinti won).

This is about society reaching a place where freely held elections are decided on the quality and qualifications of candidates. We might want to remind ourselves that there is a very big reason voting booths have a curtain that closes behind one single person at a time.

And for that to come to pass, too much blood of our ancestors has been shed for anyone to remain free if they compromise that process in any way, for they are abridging our hard-fought-for freedom.

It doesn't matter who they are, and it shouldn't be a game of chance.
This is about right and wrong.

    Book'em, Dan-o.

  4. To be fair: I know y'all knew all that already, but I am so sick of those who would say running down the possibility of voter fraud is in some way partisan politics. It ain't. Keep up the good work.

  5. Hmmm... to ply:

If the above seems like 'Lenz vs. Occhipinti- The Sequel' that was not my intention.

    Here's what it's about.

Rooting out the rot in Hoboken's election process, and that's no abstraction. The 'rot' is the handiwork of individuals with names and faces, who conspire in an organized, systematic way to 'fix' our elections. This practice has become a 'given' in our town because it's been long ignored by those empowered to prosecute it.

Well, we know which team did the mail-in ballot mining and which team didn't. We know at least 2 individuals named in the 4 witness statements contained in the Lenz campaigns' criminal complaint. Did they act alone? Probably not.

So the roulette metaphor is really about the 'chance' that justice will be served to those responsible when historically it hasn't.

So, no. The end game is much larger than the individuals involved, but you don't get there in my view without prosecuting the perps.

  6. GA, thank you. We are indeed on exactly the same page, a page which is conspicuously missing from the oft-referenced binder.

So, anyway, we totally agree, and to wrap up my Veteran's Day observance, a final quote:

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men."

  7. I did not take it on the level of Lenz v Occhipinti either. It is, however, unavoidable that the large and, truth be told, charismatic personalities who drive corruption in Hoboken be part of the headline. They are not interchangeable parts. Someone is not waiting to take their place. We are dealing with a specific brand. Call it what it is.

Now someone may say Occhipinti is an interchangeable part, and this is true. Think of the machine as a spirit that needs to inhabit a body. The body cannot, in 2010 (or '11 or '12 or '13...) be that of a bnr. It must be a 'newcomer'. And the more pliant and poseable the 'newcomer' the better. Tim has showm himself willing to say anything. But if he lost, they would get someone else. But the people who did the 'getting' - they would be the same.

    Pretending otherwise serves no purpose.
