On May 17th, Councilwoman Beth Mason posted a video on her web site called, "Beth Mason on Pay-to-Play" and there's something about it that's driving me crazy.
It's not what she says. It's the music. What is it?
The video starts and closes with a few seconds of contemporary rock that has a Bon Jovi-ish sound. That's right, Beth Mason is the meat in a rock-n-roll sandwich.
That rock music lead-in seems oddly paired with a conservatively-dressed, neatly coiffed middle-aged politician announcing she'll introduce an ordinance "to adopt the State of New Jersey's code of ethics at the local level" at tonight's City Council meeting. Yeah, baby. Sex, drugs and pay-to-play. Rock on! Yep, that scolding on ethics reform kinda makes me feel like picking up my Fender and jamming. How about you?
Have a listen, and see if you can name that tune.
Too bad you can't watch it here; I tried to embed Mason's video but Grafix Avenger was BLOCKED.
See?
Worth noting at the 40 second mark, Mason drops the H-Bomb (H411), suggesting viewers go to that cyber-hellhole to see evidence acquitting her of illegal street money disbursement in her 2009 mayoral campaign. That allegation, a fourth-degree felony punishable by 18-months in prison, was floated by Councilman Ravi Bhalla and seemingly backed up by copies of her 2009 mayoral ELEC reports.
Bhalla made those counter-charges after Mason pounded him first on 'pay-to-play' charges like she did on this videotape AND demanded his resignation from the City Council.
Which makes it curious why Mason would revisit the same line of attack considering that she hasn't yet explained why her campaign's 48 checks paid 151 people?
Attachment-2 from Mason's ELEC report, re-posted for your convenience:
Now, how did THAT happen?
It's up to ELEC to judge Ravi Bhalla's BE form filing oversight and punish him accordingly. Not Beth Mason.
And she still has plenty of 'splaining to do herself. With more serious legal consequences.
Maybe her explanation will be on the video sequel.

No clue re sountrack. Call Swibinski for clarification.
ReplyDelete"96 Tears" might have been a realistic choice. Or Joplin's "Cry, Cry, Baby."
But we're talking politics....
Uh-oh....in the time it took me to write the above post, some little BM-handler snatched the vid.
ReplyDeleteAlas, now we'll never know....
Dear MBB!
ReplyDeletePlease refresh the page... you'll see the video embed wouldn't work because this site's domain was BLOCKED. I will need to request "permission" from Mason to play it here.
Do you think I'd get her permission?
GA: You're asking me-? Call Swibinski. I've heard he's on a $3k/mo. retainer.
ReplyDeleteHow about renaming the thread:
"Name That Loon"-?
With a little help from the app Shazam i found out it was "We Weren't Born To Follow" by yes, Bon Jovi....perfect title for BM, since no-one was obviously born to follow, or vote for her.
ReplyDeleteSounds like 'Its not my time" from three doors down.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the prize? Dinner and a photo opp with the GA? or Obama?
ReplyDeleteWonder if Mr. Jovi will stop Beth's video, just like David Byrne did to a Governor in Florida:

Or will she say it was a "clerical" error....
