I know, not a big surprise. And you may be sick of being pelted with campaign email, handouts, ads telling you Candidate X will make your world bright and shiny but Candidate Y will send you to Hell in a flaming hand basket.
Well, none of that stuff is true. Here is why I am voting for Kids First:
It's very personal. I've got 'skin in the game'. LA attends a Hoboken public school. And for the Revolted crowd, I pay taxes, too.
But for me, it's all about her future in the Hoboken public schools. And what that will be.
I trust that Kids First is doing the right thing for our schools, our kids, our taxpayers. Look at their record- an incredible 7% budget reduction in a time of Draconian state aid cuts. (Even Gov. Christie could only eke out a 9% state budge cut.) No teachers have been layed off. Interim Superintendent Carter has brought in education specialists to work with teachers giving them new methods and skills. We have an independent counsel cleaning house, we had our school audit presented to the public which disclosed all kinds of systemic corruption. And that's the tip of the proverbial iceberg- Kids First has accomplished a hell of a lot in a short time.
The other guys, Real Results, are partisan political ideologues-- their interest is number-crunching and bean counting. Which is fine if you are educating numbers and beans. Not children. I have NEVER seen any of them at a Board meeting prior to running, with the exception of Liz Markevitch who has attended a couple of meetings in the past year. I can't overstate the fact that these political partisans have allegiance to their Party's tax-cutting platform NOT to our children, NOT to mine. Their lack of familiarity with the 'mechanics' of how our schools run and the legal framework that shapes all School Board policy has been evident every step of the way.
For example: Real Results platform includes "corporate sponsorship" for athletic gear, but the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) does not allow public school children to wear donated gear with logos. It's illegal. Why didn't they know that?
Anyway, I could go on and on. But you're busy. Please, I implore you to take a few minutes out of your day to VOTE. Polls are open from 2-9pm.
And I ask you to support Kids First.
