Comparative vs. Negative Advertising

I was pleased to see that Kids First finally decided to 'hit back' on many of the 'fake facts' disseminated by their opponents Real Results throughout this campaign, in this ad that appeared in yesterday's print edition of The Hoboken Reporter.

I was told by someone familiar with political advertising, this kind of ad is called a 'comparative' ad. That's where you compare one thing (claims by Real Results) with another (Kids First actual record) Please note this ad was vetted and fact-checked by the publisher of the Hoboken Reporter prior to publication.

Comparative Ad

Now, here is what you call a 'negative' ad. It is when one individual or group (RealResults) dumps a bucket of mud over their opponent (Kids First), making wild claims without accountability for truth-telling or fairness. This 'ad' (campaign brochure) was not independently vetted nor verified, but comes from the slime and ooze of the Real Results brain trust.
