Mason's Resume Unravels

Here's what a famous wise man once said:
"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

Like that brilliant philosopher-king warned, the first time you (or the guy behind you) is fooled, consider yourself a victim. When it happens again, consider yourself a schmuck.

Are you a schmuck?

If so, then accept that the bogus entry on Beth Mason's resume was an aberration; a singular act of 'truthiness' - probably just an accident or an innocent mistake.  You know, accidently claiming to work for her own company, Newton, Lao, Leonard &Locke,  from 1993-2005 though not a registered business entity until 2010.  And the accidental list of big-name clientele... though not a trace of any actual work on Google.  And accidently her registered business address, 10 Stuvesant Ave, Lyndhurst, NJ-  has no such business. It's the address of her consultant, the Cratos Group. Quite by accident.

If a person is capable of memorializing that big a whopper on their resume, what makes you think it's only one?

It's not.

This bull bursts right out of the gate.

Wow.

Beth Mason, "the Student Body President of the Virginia Commonwealth University" (VCU) "represented 35,000 students"!

Impressive.

If only it were true.

Super-sleuth One Eye was out in the field, so GA prevailed upon a friend with two intact, functioning eyeballs to check the veracity of Mason's claim. Here's what he/she  found:

I called the Office of Alumni Relations and was told that they cannot release the  information requested.

However, I found out that the Student Government Association of VCU (of which Mason claims to have been President- “SGA”)  is split into two separate components…one for the Monroe Park Campus (“MPC”) which includes the School of Mass Communications that Beth attended and one for the Medical College of Virginia (“MCV”) which includes several different schools providing education in the health and medical fields. A  student who is elected President of the MPC branch of the SGA does not represent the students of the MCV branch of the SGA.

VCU currently has almost 32,000 students in all of its various schools, locations, etc. Beth claims to have represented 35,000 students way back in the early ‘80’s.  This is simply not possible because, from all accounts, VCU has grown tremendously in the past 5-10 years and the entire CURRENT aggregate student population is less than 35,000.
Nice job, my two-eyed friend.  You found out:
  • VCU has (2) campuses, each campus has it's own student government body serving the population of his/her respective campus. Thus, combining the populations of both campuses and claiming to be their Student Body President would be a.... um... whopper.
  • VCU's aggregate population, at an all-time high in 2011, still remains under 35,000.  Beth Mason graduated in the Class of '84.  Which makes that claim of presiding over 35,000 another... um... whopper.
Readers, I hope you know by now that GA is no schlock outfit like Hoboken411, throwing shit at the wall then publishing the shit-covered  wall.

No.  I do my due diligence. So checked the info my double-eyed friend found.

From Wikipedia:

You can see the current (2) Student Body Presidents, from the Monroe and MCV campuses, respectively, by checking the VCU Student Association web site yourself.

Bottom line:  we know that if Mason, Class of '84, were a Student Body President, she presided over the Monroe Park campus only.

"35,000 students" as she claimed?

No.

According to Wiki, VCU's aggregate population didn't hit 30,000 until 2006.

From the VCU News Center:

It looks like back then when Mason attended, the aggregate population was 20,000, give or take.

Then it's fair to say that Mason effectively doubled the number of students she alleges to have "represented" back in 1984 on her resume.

"Alleges" the operative word.

GA has been unable to confirm the claim that she was ever  Student Body President at all.

Meaning the slim references to her on the VCU campus don't include this fact, nor did she include on her own City Council bio. The resume is the only online document GA found with this claim. Which does not mean she wasn't.  But...

(Updated, 8:30 pm)
I would have posted this earlier but having technical problems with the lap-gizmo.

Some kind person sent me this earlier:

Darling, you should have called me!

I have access to the IPEDS (Fed) database.

For 1984, VCU's exact enrollment was:

Grand total Full time Part-time
All students total 19773 11488 8285
All students- Graduate and First professional 5558 2375 3183
All students- Undergraduate total 14215 9113 5102

So, really. If she's talking Undergraduates, it's really only 14,215. And a third of those were non-engaged part-time students.

Didja cath that?

The aggregate VCU student body in 1984 was 14,215 NOT 35,000.the total Mason claimed to have "represented".

Now, If someone gets hold of a yearbook, we'll see who was Student Body President on the Monroe Park campus, years 81 - 84.

  2. Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!!!

The number of lies this woman tells is Legion. How was she brought up?...To think, in all contests, the ends justify the means? This is certainly the way she acts. I feel sorry for her daughters who must get exposed to the negative commentary on the blogs every once in a while. I DO NOT feel sorry for Ricky Mason because he has facilitated all of this mendacious ugliness with his scads of money.

I think it's time for this up-scale, wealthy couple to leave Hoboken and move to Manhattan. Hoboken is slim pickings for their voracious need to be noticed and placed above everyone else. But, then again, Manhattan is a big fish pond, while Hoboken is a relatively small fish pond. Does Beth want to be a Big Fish in a Small Pond or a Small Fish in a Big Pond. I leave that up to you, Dear Reader, to decide.

Whatever the answer, Beth and Ricky Mason have totally worn out their welcome. Hoboken would be a much better place without them

  3. Hey, Mel.

    2 things:

My 2-eyed friend who called VCU Alumni Office inquiring about the 1984 time-frame was told by them about the dual-student government structure which was in place at the time Mason was there.

Then, the Wiki- linked above- tells us the merger (of RPI and MCV) which created VCU happened in 1968, at which time MCV retained the right to use its name.

  4. If you include the more than 15,000 who live in the tiny kingdom she rules inside her head, you'd arrive at the same number!

  7. Ah, no worries Mel.

My big problem now is my laptop seems to be possessed... typing what it wants instead of what I want.

    Help.
