EXCLUSIVE: Nason's Council picks and MORE

Nason has asked these folks to be her runningmates: left to right: Frank Rosner, Former BoE Trustee Maureen Sullivan , BoE Trustee Peter Biancamano
Thank you, Hoboken mayoral candidate Karen Nason for sharing your At-Large Council picks with GA!

"I've talked at length to all three, and they are perfect for me." Nason said, "I'm waiting for their answer."

So will either Frank Rosner, Maureen Sullivan or Peter Biancamano  sign on to Nason for Mayor?

Rosner is by all accounts, a salt-of-the-earth type of guy;  well-liked and respected at his synagogue and in the Hoboken community at-large.  He's never held elected office.

Both Sullivan and Biancamano have held (or hold) elected office as Trustees of the Hoboken Board of Education.

What's interesting about the selection of runningmates (especially with a political newbie like Nason) is that its the candidate's first public executive decision; these are the people whom she trusts to govern Hoboken.

In the meantime, Nason's hired a campaign manager: Don Goncalves.  Goncalves, a resident of Elizabeth, worked for the Elizabeth Public School district for 15 years.

In 2016, his fundraising efforts for two homeless men who'd found a backpack filled with explosives at an Elizabeth train station, garnered national press. The Washington Post wrote:
"Within days, the GoFundMe page that Goncalves set up had doubled its goal, and now has raised more than $25,000.  Goncalves, who has become the de facto spokesman for Parker and White — he has had inquiries from Hollywood for talk-show appearances and from the National Football League’s New York Jets to honor them at a game — said he is eager to get the money distributed. Some criticized his decision to give the local homeless organization a third of the money, but Goncalves felt it was important to give something to the group that will help Parker get back on his feet."
Nason's campaign also includes nationally-prominent Republican political strategist and pollster Adam Geller.  Geller is the founder and CEO of National Research, Inc., and...

most recently was a pollster for none other than...

Donald Trump.

GA told you DeFusco folks, underestimate Nason at your own peril. This gal means business.

  2. Blech! Aside from Frank, who I don't know these choices are as bad as they could be. Biacamano? Sullivan? I'd expect some serious commentary on this blog. Pinocchio noses on photos at a minimum!

Anyway, to me it's Zimmer who should be scared. Nason is fishing in the republican pond - that's the crowd that Zimmer played to when she first ran for office in order to get close to victory and it's the crowd that Zimmer has clung to as her primary base all these years. If Nason pulls the republicans from Zimmer, Defusco might just waltz right in.

Wow! This election is getting more interesting by the day. And I thought it was going to be dullsville this year with a Romano v. Zimmer snore-fest.

    Boy was I wrong!

    1. You're right that it's getting more interesting.

Serious commentary on the politics will follow- today is the announcement. I told Nason, "Peter's got more baggage than Grand Central Station." Listen, she's new to the 'game' and will make mistakes but at the end of the day will be judged based on her statements and her choices- including who she's picked to run with. What I don't like are bullying, nasty posts about her and efforts to intimidate her out of running. But, we are moving into the next phase- the race. Stay tuned.

  7. Zimmer has never swum in the republican pond. She's swum in the non-partisan/bi-partisan good honest government pond. That's a very different pond. If GA is right about Karen's ticket, Karen will very much be playing in DeFusco's pond not Zimmer's.

Mike won't likely be waltzing to anything but third place and political oblivion. The only question is whether he's smart enough to get it. His "adviser" knows it but have their own agendas. Will Mike dance to his own tune or to his sidekick's?

    Time will tell.

  8. Guess you werern't here for the 2009 mayoral. Corzine backed Cammerano and Zimmer subsequently decided to try to pick up Hoboken's growing republican vote. And she kept that going for her 2nd term bid. Recall the 'we're lucky to have Christy' tweet.

    1. The current environment doesn't exactly favor Republicans. Trump approval is on life support. Democrat Phil Murphy will be our next Governor. Hoboken elections are non partisan and anyone who tries to bring in national parties (at least on the Republican side) is making a big mistake.

    2. You're more than a wee bit confused about the dynamics of the 2009 mayoral race (not mention the 8 years since then) but good luck with the clever strategy! Those who don't understand history are unlikely to understand or know how to exploit the present.

    3. Exactly why I suspect Zimmer has suddenly rediscovered her Democrat roots and is welcoming all of the Hudson County corruptocrat kudos. Yeah, Hoboken elections are non-partisan, meanwhile Zimmer holds a fundraiser where the theme of the night is bashing republicans.

Maybe I'm misreading this post but it seems like Karen is publicly putting their names out there and now waiting to hear back from them.

To the best of my admittedly faulty memory, mayoral candidates tend to announce who they have as running mates, as opposed to who that would like to run with.

Fallick and Soares have reform track records , hate them or not.

To even suggest they are anything but, is a history re-write... We know, Cheryl campaigned for Nino Giacchi and Soares pulls wings off butterflies.

    3. DeFusco sort of announced unofficially that Soares and Fallic were on his ticket. They still may be for all we know or even if DeFusco will run at all.

IMO, Tony and Cheryl's recent actions negate what ever they may have done in the distant past.

    These are all terrible choices
Frank Rosner, may have needed a job at the time, so okay, but does he need one now and willing to run with those two BOE trustees who work 24/7 on behalf of Mason and her Hola! gang?

Respected in a community is fine, by that standard, I guess Ricky Mason is okay too, he's respected in that same community you reference for Rosner.

  17. Dear Doppelganger @ 9:04, 9:44.9:47, 9:48, 10:39-

    (1) This site has not attacked Cheryl- you can stop lumping her in with your sorry self.
    (2) DeFusco has been campaigning for months, using his status as an elected official for a bully pulpit- whine and moan all you like, it is simply not "apples to apples". DeFusco has legislative power, and has already used it to support his stealth mayoral campaign- such as his 901 Bloomfield resolution to dump density in his own ward, and threats not to reappoint incumbent ZBA members who voted against the developer of 107-111 Washington Street. Comparing Nason (no political power) to DeFusco (Hoboken Legislator) is beyond dishonest, but that's exactly who you've become.
    (3) DeFusco's North Bergen allies have been attacking this site for months- got the SPAM to prove it- every time this site has criticized a public position DeFusco has taken in his unofficial campaign.
    (4) DeFusco's North Bergen allies even bullied Phil Murphy's staff to stop him from coming to Hoboken.
    (5) You have dropped some accusations of potentially criminal activity against Zimmer staff without offering any proof. That is libel. You need to check yourself.
    (6) The above-mentioned are not candidates yet. Nor are Soares, Fallick. You have been quite liberal in your critique of them here on this thread, yet moan like a bitch that Soares and Fallick have been attacked "by GA"- which is false. Hypocrite, much?
    (7) If you continue at this pace, you will combust by summer.

  22. I think there are two things that both Karen and Mike have underestimated, but Romano seems to have embraced by telegraphing that he isn't running: (1) the popularity of Zimmer amongst most (not all) residents in Hoboken and that newer residents of Hoboken recently moved here because they like Hoboken and attribute all of the positive to Zimmer. The numbers of these people, along with true Zimmer supporters, FAR outweigh the number of people the dark side can conjur up. Their numbers have declined overall and proportionately. (2) - the fact that both Karen and Mike will be supported by Dark Side / Old Guard representatives - the criminals and vote buyers like Raia / Russo / Ramos / Garcia. Reform has already made and will again make this an issue in the upcoming elections. I have heard that the HCDO committee slate is being told that dark side politics and voter fraud are the reason they should run for committee (to help stop it). This group of people didnt even know it existed before. And we all saw the impact Matt Colichio had on the Board of Ed race last fall once people unaware of dark side politics became aware. They mobilized. I agree with someone above - DeFusco should sit this one out, build a tangible record, and run in 2021. By then Zimmer will have a role in the Murphy government.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As it stands now. Mike would easily be poised to be the frontrunner to succeed Zimmer in 2021 if he sits this out. He has $87,000 in the bank, far more than he'll need for his re-election effort. He's the most skilled council member by far at promoting himself to the public.

Fulop sat out 2009, a race he likely would have lost, because he recognized that his time would come four years later by having the wisdom and patience to wait and the skills to take advantage of the time.

DeFusco 2017= Fulop 2009, and DeFusco 2021 can easily = Fulop 2013 if Mike does what's right for himself rather than follow the course sold to him by grifters trying to pick his pocket or hacks trying to make themselves relevant again.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree that he's gifted in the art of self promotion, produces polished videos and has a following on social media... but lacks depth, sincerity and honesty in the issues he's tackled. We are being pitched. For example, he produced a mini-campaign to preserve and beautify court street. A later mini-campaign attacked ZBA Commissioners who denied a project because of its harmful impact on Court Street. He also attacked the city for not "saving" 901 Bloomfield when he skipped every ZBA hearing on the 901 Bloomfield condo conversion. There is no reason to believe that 4 more years will improve his judgment.

      Is there?

      Delete
    2. I think there is. He is just still really young. He needs a little longer to be in the public eye and realize that he needs to be less impulsive and more strategic. It seems like right now he is in a rush to put up some immediate wins and his haste and ambition is getting in the way of a good outcome. As GA's graphic suggests, slow and steady wins the race. He can take 4 years - or maybe shorter if Zimmer does something at the state level - to really master what it means to be a public servant. Rack up some longer term victories. What is he mid 30's or something? There is a lot of maturing that happens from then to 40. Zimmer was 40 when she started out.

      Delete
    3. Mike may or may not have evolved into a guy who ought to be mayor in four years but that's different than the question of when the time would be for him to try. This year, he will lose, probably badly, to a strong incumbent and he won't likely have another chance. Four years from now he'll probably be competing for an open seat against weaker opponents in a fractured field.

Running this year is simply not smart. I guess we'll find out soon whether or not Mike is.

      Delete
    4. You think the sharks will back off? Nah. Everybody wants a piece..... Mikeys on the hook.

    6. The whole "good cop , bad cop" routine with the nice comments about Mike should wait from the good cops and the bad cops roasting him out here" are not working. Everyone with the exception of a handful of dipshits here that think that will sway him not to run are sadly mistaken. With every comment he is only feeling victory more. It backfires.
If someone doing this thinks they are helping Zimmer, they are not.
Since Zimmer is the only other declared candidate she would be the only beneficiary of such ugliness
Attempts to pin this on Defusco will no doubt ensue, but who knows, this election may be a real shit show with lots of Old Guard Candidates fighting

    2. Nason's being in the race helps Zimmer. Nason being in the race dilutes any anti Zimmer vote if DeFusco or anyone else enters the race. That is the reason the North Bergen boys wanted Romano out of the race. Realistically DeFusco was always a very long shot to win but Nason is not even in the running.

We owned property together and as I walked out of a long relationship of a very abusive individual to his children and myself you will read the case which took years on a building we owned. I had years of fighting for my son and if you really READ this case as you have posted, you would have read Judge Gropper pointing out that this man tries to screw his own son. This is a judgment of property owned worth millions that I won a judgment for my son for 400,000 which over 1/2 went to attorney fighting for and years of my fighting alone in other cases for my son. Please read the case before you go on to show "Oh my goodness" what a horrible woman fighting for her children!!
