DeFusco announces solo (no slate)

Beware of those Baby Blues

A little past noon today, the fourth Hoboken mayoral candidate finally threw his hat into the ring... on Facebook.

That's one hat, not four.  No slate, yet.

No "Mike for Mayor" ELEC report on file yet, either.

The April filing of "Mike DeFusco for Hoboken City Council" reported a closing balance of $88,676.10.  That balance plus $250k developers PAC "pledges" leaked to InsiderNJ makes Mayor Zimmer, Karen Nason, and Ron Baptista the cash underdogs in the 2017 race.

The fact that DeFusco announced sans-slate seems to indicate the candidate was not yet ready to announce, but was forced to "shit or get off the pot," by big-money backers.  Ruben Ramos appears to have been ready to step into his place.

One can assume that DeFusco has not assembled a slate to his satisfaction nor to the satisfaction of his big-money backers.

He's also failed to push out Karen Nason. Nason is backed by Terry Castellano, who has neither forgiven nor forgotten that DeFusco unseated her in 2015. Karen has also assembled a stellar line-up of campaign staff, including nationally-known pollster Adam Geller.

But, sources say that DeFusco's campaign will have deep pockets from the Hoboken-based development community.  His major supporters (ka-ching) are rumored to be developers Dave Barry, Pupie Raia and Greg Dell'Aquila,  and Academy Bus's Tedesco family.

Well folks, GA is personally glad DeFusco has finally thrown in.  Instead of running a shadow mayoral campaign with no campaign reporting mechanism, he will have to play by the same rules as everyone else in the race.

Here is DeFusco's kick-off video.  What do you think?

  1. A cold and rainy day seems the perfect occasion for a cold and whiny candidate to say he wants to be mayor.

    1. That is so cute. Mike wants to be mayor. He better get used to being disappointed. It is a lot harder to buy a victory in the mayoral race than it used to be.

    2. They laughed when Zimmer announced, ran and LOST the first time.

  2. great commercial, love how the guy with boat loads (pledged!) of developer cash is crying about old building being torn down and replaced. also, where's he gonna get all the money to replace/improve all the things he's "concerned about? higher taxes? oh, and notice he skips over the fact that he hasn't really accomplished anything while on the city council?

slick. reminds me of that other slick guy, what was his name...cammarano?

  3. Zimmer didn't announce a slate either. DeFusco is going to sail to victory. He is the right candidate at the right time. And your desperate attempts to attack him show your fear. In a year from now GA will be pumping gas because the Zimmer gravy train is over!

    1. Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that MDF has any realistic chance at getting elected.

    2. Hilarious. "Pumping gas"? You mean if MDF prevails, I lose my First Amendment right to criticize my government? You mean he's going to police free speech? Oh trust me, this blog will have plenty to say if that day comes.

Sounds like you're worried he will win

That video is slick and he will beat Zimmer in any debate.

  6. Terry DID post that on FB. Check for yourself. The same page that says she's still 1st ward council woman.

  7. Adam Geller wont do anything for Karen, he's a Republican pollster, a poll for Hoboken is easily 20,000 according to ELEC reports out there.

Maybe that was overheard at the cafe?

  8. So far everyone I plan to talk to later if I get around to it agrees that I should get at least 2 and possibly all 3 slots! Those are pretty impressive poll numbers hypothetical poll numbers!!!!!

Campaign slogan: Are you wanking more than you were 4 years ago?!?!?! Can't miss!! Sad!!!!!!!!

  9. It is a tribute to Grafix Avenger that MDeF's people seem to be obsessed with this blog and the power they perceive it has over his candidacy.

  10. He has one important trait in common with Beth. His smarminess is immediately apparent to the average person, the usual suspects notwithstanding. The mountain you have to climb to unseat a popular incumbent requires charisma. He's offering a grating earnest disingenuousness instead. Just don't see this happening. But stranger things have happened. Just did............

  11. Mike's problem is that he now has a record, missed votes on the Zoning board and disingenuous proposals and narratives while on the council. Mike is going to need answers to a lot of questions.

  12. I'm not sold on Mike, but I'm so ready for someone else other than Dawn. Why didn't she pass the baton to someone else?

    1. @5:57...um, because she's done a good job, is popular among voters and has lots of plans for continuing the improvement of hoboken. that's three reasons off the top of my head.

    2. Agree. I'm so tired of balanced budgets, lower taxes, increased property values, AA+ Muni bond ratings, replacing water mains on Wash Street, new flood pumps, new SW park, BASF pop up park, renegotiating SUEZ water contract, $230M Rebuild by Design grant,... god, I'm getting tired of naming all the things I'm sick of.

      Let's hand Hoboken over to DeFusco's developer-friends!

    1. Have you considered running against Zimmer instead of running against what you'll dutifully tell us is "a handful of bloggers"?

    2. Atta boy Dang! Knew you wouldn't let us down.

    3. 8:35---Nice to hear the truth- you're here to take shots at Zimmer for the DeFusco campaign -- while pretending to be "not sold on Mike." Not only are you sold on Mike, you're bought and paid for. You know this blog supports Reform, that is why you came to pretend you're "not sold on Mike"... you might even create a conversation whereby your character gets "sold" on Mike in an effort to influence public opinion. If you want a pro-DeFusco echo chamber, ask his developer friends to buy him one.

    4. That play is so 2008. . .good lord get a new angle already.

      Here's an idea:
"I support ____ because he/she has the following skills that I believe will make a great mayor:
      1.
      2.
      3.

I respect the other candidates, but [my choice] is the most qualified! Does anyone care to discuss?"

That would get you a lot further than these disingenuous "I haven't decided yet" posts.

  14. Undecided Hoboken GuyMay 23, 2017 at 1:01 PM

I guess you can tell from my name that I am an UNDECIDED voter in Hoboken city. Fer sher!

I like Dawn and everything. A lot of stuff she CLAIMS she did MIGHT be good. I know the ones Mike Defusco voted for were good. Fer sher!

But I'm worried about my future. See, like a lot of people, I'm thinking of becoming gay. But Dawn and her henchman Ravi are very anti-gay. There was a poll that all us future-gay-guys read and Hoboken City scored "neo-nazi." That can't be good. Now I've had to delay my plans to become gay. Darn.

So I'm still undecided since Dawn keeps CLAIMING she did things in the VERY DISTANT past. But I'd like to see if there's a candidate who will address the fascist tendencies that have blossomed under Dawn and her henchman Ravi. Fer sher! Guess I'll keep reading and keeping an open mind and look forward to hearing from gay-hating neo-nazis and new blood alike. Fer sher!

    2. Is it my imagination of did David Liebler just post that image and leave his name attached to the image site?? Maybe someone hacked David's log-in and posted it under his name. I can't believe David would be so idiotically stupid as to attach his name to such a juvenile, malicious post, right? Would he? He's not that unthinking, is he?

Didn't Liebler always say he never posted under pseudonyms, that he always used his real name???

So that fearless pussy is trash-talking under the pseudonym, "anonymous" then posts a juvenile photoshop of the mayor WITH HIS LOG-IN showing????

What a hypocrite! What a dope!

  19. David likely has had a phony name forever and with his pending action in court, is writing under a multitude of fake names. He is not alone. People have a plethora of names, but iwth using many names comes the potential for making many mistakes, like the one posted last night. Eventually, too much is going on and you forget things and that is exactly what happens. He likely meant to post the pic by itself and posted wrong pic which had his account name clearly shown. I am curious if he has been making homophobic posts and other grotesque posts I saw pop up that Nancy deleted. Very bothersome. I like David, I do not agree with his views though. Nice guy but if he is behind the slurs it brings a new meaning

    1. I haven't deleted all- some are saved. Very personal, very nasty, and with a historical memory of the Bajardi slapp... this motherf*cker is attacking my free speech, trying to shut down this blog (he filed a complaint with Blogger in April), and posting incredibly vile things about me personally which have nothing to do with politics. Now I know who's been doing it. He really should reconsider that fake First Amendment lawsuit- in the course of attacking my free speech, he's been identified as a DeFusco surrogate who is campaigning against a Defendant, the Mayor. Well, I hope the City can use his own actions against him in court.

  20. Mr. Technology makes the ultimate rookie mistake and leaves his log-in visible, LOOOOOLLL! Talk about amateur hour.

@11:38, I agree with everything you said but question the "nice guy" reference. That's a little hard to swallow, considering the deceitful, juvenile, malicious level to which we now know he stoops. Leads to me wonder what else he's posted that we don't know about, difficult to trust him from now on.
