UPDATED: "Shake Shack' Mike, Used Burger Salesman

UPDATE

Shake Shack has tweeted " no plans for this site [107-11 Washington Street]"...

...proving once and for al (as GA told you) Councilman DeFusco lied to the public (and besmirched the reputation of Hoboken's Zoning Board of Adjustment) when he posted this on Facebook:

'Nuff said?

A shout out to hMag's Chris Halloran for today's excellent coverage of this developing story.

Stay tuned folks, more to come!

So get this.

First, Councilman Mike DeFusco gets caught in a huge lie- picking up a DEVELOPER'S TALKING POINT- he makes the fallacious claim that "Hoboken said "NO" to Shake Shack" at the Zoning Board.

Next, GA confronts him with the lie on Facebook, then PROVES he's lied here: I published the ZBA Planner's report which requested that the Applicant "provide  information regarding the TYPE of commercial and/or retail tenants intended for the space. "  NONE (contract, lease, letter of commitment) was provided in response to the Planners report-NONE, including at the hearing.  The Applicant showed a rendering with "Shake SHake" signage- that's all.

Next, Councilman DeFusco BLOCKS ME FROM COMMENTING ON FACEBOOK.

Next, Councilman DeFusco CONTINUES to LIE to the public that "Shake Shack" was a confirmed tenant.  Because GA is blocked, DeFusco continues to feed the angry mob, and LIE like a friggin rug.  Check this out:

What the hell is, "in contract pending approval?"

In contract means "in contract."

The Applicant provided no letter of commitment or any proof at all that "Shake Shake" was "in contract pending approval" IF this was true- and they were ASKED for this information.

Conclusion:  Defusco is parroting a DEVELOPER TALKING POINT- A SALES PITCH.

Consider DeFusco's Hamburger Jihad on Facebook a big wink to the development community... maybe a pitch for "support" (ka-ching) to a flagging campaign.

DeFusco has shown he will ABDICATE his responsibility as a Councilman sitting on a body that hears ZBA appeals in order to SHILL for a developer.... at the same time, he stabs the Hoboken Zoning Board of Adjustments (as a body) in the back, by creating this false narrative that turns the ZBA into "bad guys who voted against hamburgers."

Absolute bullshit.

GA sat on the ZBA for 4 years, and accept how applicants pitch projects.

DeFusco has completely politicized the board, and trashed it's good work by dragging into his self-centered political ambitions.  'Nuff said about hamburgers today?

  1. That is some interesting phraseology. "In contract pending approval" - pending what approval? As GA notes, if you're in contract you're in contract. Unless it's a NJ home sale, then you're under contract until you're not. I'll never understand NJ real estate transactions.

    2. 1:02- you are so full of shit. Shake Shake corporate HQ released a statement today stating they never planned to come to the Wash Street site. That makes Mike the Burger Jihadi look like a used burger salesman.

    3. GA - please. You are letting the FACTS get in the way of Mike's carefully manufactured fake controversy. Stop letting the facts get in the way of a fake controversy. BTW, making a prediction here. Mike will keep making crap up b/c he has nothing positive to say on anything he has ever done for the city.

    2. Us guys? How exciting, I'm in a cabal. I've wanted to be in one of those since grade school.

Tim's seat was bought. The purchaser became city council president and did all she could to wreck the town in her term. I haven't forgotten.

Do me a favor. Don't tell me which group decides my opinion. I'll try to do the same for you and resist the urge to lump you in with the other assholes. I'm sure you're an asshole in your own special way.

    3. Like Tim? Ha. Not a chance. But I do think Tim is probably smarter than Mike. Mike sets a pretty low standard - I suspect most squirrels are smarter than Mike.

    5. Hardly. Timmy was terrible but Ruben isn't a prize either. MDF, the boy who cries wolf.

  4. How does making a fuss over a zoning board denial, with or without a tenant, help him seem like a viable candidate for mayor? Leaving the corrupt administrations aside, mayors don't dictate how the zoning board will vote, or which tenants want to rent space. If he were mayor, he could not have legally influenced either outcome.

    2. Probably true in some cases, and yet she lets them do their appointed jobs without interference, unlike oh, just about every mayor before her. Is DeFusco alleging she told the zoning board to deny this application because it had a Shake Shack?

    3. hey anonymous at 101pm that is exactly what tony soares said and exactly what perry and lane said before him. trying to make unpaid board positions sound like patronage hires is so 2010.

    4. But it didn't have a Shake Shack. People need to keep remembering that and tossing it back in Mike's face b/c he made it up. The developer produced a rending of the building that had a Shake Shack sign on the front - likely b/c that is their dream tenant. Problem is that it is a pipe dream. They probably didn't want to admit that they will likely only end up w/ another crappy nail salon or dry cleaner in that location.

  5. Oh "boo hoo " to quote GA, " what a big Baby" GA you block people all the time.
DeFusco shouldn't block anyone, but you were spamming his page and cursing at him.

    1. No I wasn't, arsehole.

Anyone can go see what's written on the thread. DeFusco is a public official on Hoboken's legislative body which makes me a CONSTITUENT. How dare an elected official shut down discourse over a public controversy WITH A CONSTITUENT.

This is a blog,I am not an elected official, there is NO EQUIVALENCY.

    3. Anonymous login in 411 lockdown mode after judge rules against Dallaras.

Defusco would have done the same.

      Delete
    4. 411 never allowed anonymous logins. What are you talking about?

      Delete
    5. Delos12, thank you for registering a name. Now to your inane comment.

Think of "Anonymous login" as a privilege not a right. If users abuse the privilege (i.e.; obscene spam last night), I turn it off. When it is off, anyone can comment under a registered name, as you did.

As for Ghost town 411, not only did he NOT allow open commenting- Anonymous or 3rd part registration (like here)- he actually gave out the personal registrant information of users to pro-Beth Mason partisan political operatives. Yes, I have voluminous proof in the Bajardi SLAPP email exhibits.

    6. And 411 would tell you all posting login/posting is a privileged. Which when Perry/Lane did something stupid and were being called out for it they would curtail.

I'm sure the Dallaras are nice people but facts are they screwed up and missed the legal deadline to file. For whatever reason the clerk overlooked this and accepted a late filing.

If Ines had filed late and the clerk accepted it, Nancy you would have blasted them and rightly so.

What's right and wrong doesn't change just because you like/dislike who is involved. We need to be better than that.

    7. Thanks for the lecture. Unlike the prolific Klaussen, whose website was a revenue-generating business, this is not. Because I have not written about the Dallaras yet, doesn't mean I will not. I plan to. I am waiting to get their brief. Are you in a hurry?

If Mike didn't flap his gums with the monster Shake Shack lie, my plate would have one less story on it. It seems to surprise you that I am not sitting here 24/7 churning out content.

To draw any conclusions, much less LECTURE me, and try to draw in a false 411 analogy based on your simplistic, WRONG assumption suggests you may suffer from self-righteous narcissism. Don't know you, suggest you take a 'chill pill.'

  10. No the twitter feed is not where real estate decisions are announced, Trader Joes protested they were coming to Hoboken 6 weeks before they came before the council

    1. Um.... nice try. Of course Shake Shack's Twitter feed represents the corporation.

Trader Joes NEVER "protested" before they came to Hoboken.

"Shake Shack" Mike the Used-Burger Salesman had no factual basis upon which to spread his LIE that Shake Shack was a tenant- what a disgrace! He will lose against Zimmer, and lose his Council seat in 2019. Buh bye. Spreading insider gossip from a developer as "fact" and denying the statement FROM THE CORPORATION shows Mike is not ready for Primetime.

  11. What the hell is wrong with MDF? It's like he's on a political kamikaze mission to self-inflict the most damage possible. I can't figure out if he's delusional or just naive, either way it's not a good look or a winning hand.

Unfortunately for Mike, it's probably too late to reverse course, the phony/North Bergen hack crew have done their damage.

  12. It is not a disaster of any kind. Your all shitting your pants because you know he will win the election. Whenever reform is scared they panic and take to blogs. Every sinareo small or of substince, this is what happens. As for MDF, he couldn't likely give a rats ass for this or any wannabe blog. It is 14 people like Dan and Stawn and Jake creating what appears like an audience, but nobody is buying it. Someone cue up the Titanic sinking song cause your ship is sinking.

    1. Mike has invited the public's wrath on the ZBA, a body that he himself used to serve. He of all people should know the parameters of their decision making and that the tenant wasn't part of it. This is lower than even Beth Mason ever sank in her years in office, speaking of sinking.

This matter has taken people have gone from questioning Mike's character to at last giving up on him as a public official. It was the worst sort of cynical populism and scapegoating and we already have enough of that sitting in the White House.

But by all means, keep telling yourself everything's fine. Here's your role model.

  13. Well at least Mike stuck his foot in his mouth over an issue... IN HIS OWN WARD.

By the way MD... I missed that community meeting where you asked us what we the residents of the first ward want. Oh yeah, our opinion only matters OFF Washington st.

BTW how you doing with that access to public space FB post you attempted to turn into an issue for 3 days?
