Oh, what a NIGHT (with Phil, Brian and many more!)

Brian couldn't keep his hands off me.
Holy (cash) COW!

An estimated 300 guests squished into Porter Collins last night to show their love (and moola) for the re-election of Mayor Dawn Zimmer and her At-Large council slate-  so far, that's Ravi Bhalla and Jim Doyle.

It was a classy event- they even had valet parking!

Would you give them your keys?

Wow!  Meanwhile, this is what the crowd inside of Porter Collins looked like- Land of the Giants!

Can you see the folks at the front of the room? Neither could I!

John Heinis of Hudson County View to the rescue!   Thanks to Heinis' excellent reporting, we can see and hear exactly what went on at the front of the room... check out his video:

So, that may be the story of the night: not only a tremendous turnout but effusive support from the next Governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy and....

This declaration from our neighbor,  LD33 State Senator Brian Stack:
"Not only am I here to offer my endorsement, and I did this a few weeks ago... I'll offer whatever it takes in support, and send people to Hoboken and go door-to-door myself, every single night to make sure Dawn is re-elected with her City Council,  Why is it important? Because Dawn Zimmer doesn't bother anyone. When I say she doesn't bother anyone, shes not your typical Hudson County politician- and that's not against anyone else in the County.  But Dawn fights for Hoboken, day in and day out, and she's concerned with Hoboken, not 100% but a MILLION % and that's refreshing to see in Hudson County."
Anybody see a message in there?

GA hears that the LD33 Senator has already offered resources for the 'Column A' Democratic Committee candidates.

Speaking of Brian Stack, did GA tell you he couldn't keep his hands off me?

Oh... wait...my doorbell is ringing... hold on, let me get...

Special delivery from Brian Stack!

What could it be?... another birthday card?  Let me open the envelope...

I told you, Stack won't leave me alone!

  1. Woman you are a shameless hussy.

    Great night.

  2. Hard to believe DeFusco will swim against this current.... Murphy genuinely likes Zimmer, a lot. It's all good for Hoboken.

    1. Having Stack not only endorse Zimmer but offer to take to the streets of Hoboken and personally campaign for her, especially in some of the traditional Old Guard vote farming areas, is significant plus too.

    2. Can Murphy really offset the combined local clout of DeFusco, Soares and Fallick? No offense to Murphy, but Soares and Fallick are proven vote getters and far bigger names here in Hoboken than Murphy.

    4. No offense but many people in Hoboken don't even know who DeFusco is let alone the other two. Those who do know who they are a great percentage don't like them.

You all hated when he supported Junk Bond Dave and Scammarano...

    7. Soares won an election at a time when no one but a BnR got elected and Fallick spearheaded the rent control win with less than 10K in the tenants' coffers and let's not forget who DeFusco beat. Let the race begin!

    9. This is too funny. "...combined local clout of DeFusco, Soares and Fallick...Soares and Fallick are proven vote getters ...far bigger names here in Hoboken than Murphy." Until recently, DeFusco had most people's respect, but wasn't exactly a household name, but the other two are often hard to take and don't have the disposition to hold public office.

    13. Lol Everybody knows who you are 8:19, 7:44, 7:41,7:37. Mike isnt running. How does Mayor Mello sound?

      Delete
    14. It does appear like Mello continuing on the Mayor's ticket may be in doubt. GA, why the comment, 'So far the Mayor's slate consists of Jim Doyle and Ravi Bhalla?' I wasn't there; is that what she announced? It'll be interesting if Mello is replaced. I thought he was quoted as saying that he wants to be on the Mayor's ticket. If he's not on the ticket does that suggest that the mayor tossed him off?

I also read another candidate has entered the race on MSV. I thought this was going to be a dull election in Hoboken, but I'm starting to get the feeling that it may be a crazy run.

    15. That's just my observation, nothing announced. Hey, the more the merrier. Viva Democracy! The 2009 mayoral candidates: Cammarano, Glatt, Zimmer, Mason, Raia... who am I missing?

    18. Don't have the correct spelling of these, but there was also Frank Orsini and Ryn Mulberg. I think Glatt and Raia ran in the special election after Cammarano stepped down, not the original 2009 election.

    19. Yes, 11:01- those names ring a bell. Did Chris Carbine run, too? I'll look this up later... I just remember there were a LOT of candidates that year.

  3. But but but...somebody sent a naughty text message, remember that one everybody???!!!! THAT's the big news of the political season, not the fact that everyone loves and supports Zimmer!!! That text message will continue to be the biggest news story of the campaign and everyone in Hoboken will be talking about all summer and through the fall, right???!! Right??

Hello...hello? Is anyone out there? Testing, testing, one-two. Is this thing on?

Issues for November: Bad roads, unmaintained parks, excessive construction, poor performing schools, anti-parade, Observer Highway reconfiguration, infrastructure collapsing, multiple civil rights lawsuits, increasing reports of violence, low rating for quality of life for LGBT community, eminent domain, and rising influence of state and county machine politics.

    1. Those are appealing issues to the swath of Hoboken that will never vote for Zimmer, and that's about it. Good luck with that. Your "issues" are so debunkable, I'm looking forward to that roll-out. By the way, bitter negative campaigns went out with Beth Mason's political career.

  8. Does Mello want to run for mayor? Is it his decision or the mayor's not to include him on her ticket? I think he's dead weight, but I'm not a political strategist. If he runs for mayor he'll fail miserably - kind of like his track record with the bar exam.

    1. I would vote for Mello and I suspect many others would as well. He has been a stalwart reformer in Hoboken for nearly a decade. Look for some support from fellow persona non grata Dr. Leon Gold and others. Remember, "there is no such thing as a small enemy"

    2. The bar exam reference is uncalled for no matter what you think of Dave as a public servant or potential candidate, and it's surprising to see from you Snoopy since you've never been one of the online "nasties."

The rest of us should never sink to the level of discourse in which people like TS thrive.

    3. anon@ 11:15 - Mello brings out my mean streak.

anon @ 10:29 - I don't believe he can overcome Zimmer's base. They love her.

      Delete
    4. Mello was out of town on Monday night (as was Peter Cunningham). That's why he wasn't at this event. Further, no ticket was announced by Mayor Zimmer on Monday. Last time Zimmer and her slate ran (four years ago this Fall), she didn't announce her ticket until August. Seems like some folks are trying to create a fake news story across these last few comments.

      Delete
    5. anon 12:59 - I am not trying to create any news story. I read: "Mayor Dawn Zimmer and her At-Large council slate- so far, that's Ravi Bhalla and Jim Doyle" in the article and concluded that Mello is not on the ticket as of today, therefore I asked what's up. And added some commentary that was neither profound nor new, wasn't it Sully who wrote Mello might run for mayor? I read it somewhere, I didn't pull it out of the sky. So if not Al then maybe some comment somewhere else.

In any event, just because someone says something you don't necessarily like or agree with, that doesn't make it fake news. If I had said definitively, "Mello is running for mayor on an opposition ticket" then sure, that's fake. I didn't. I asked a question and provided my opinion.

      Delete
    6. Which was probably the intent of the copy that you reference. Something was being implied by the "story" above, with no basis in fact, whatsoever. "(S)o far, that's Ravi Bhalla and Jim Doyle" is misleading copy. Whether that misleading word choice was intentional or not, only it's author knows.

      Delete
    7. "Misleading copy"- like the journalistic lingo.

This is commentary. I didn't say "announced slate" because she hasn't announced yet. Check out the caption on this blog: "one gal's musings on the Hoboken political scene". I am musing that those 2 persons I named are on the ticket. As the Oracle of Bayonne has written, it is unclear if Mello is on the ticket. Is the Oracle's copy misleading? Okay, yeah... I'll give you that.

      Delete
    8. But nobody is "on the ticket." The ticket hasn't been announced yet, so it seems odd for two people who are no more on the ticket than Mello to be labeled as such. There is no ticket yet, and probably won't be for some time if the Mayor is consistent with how she did things in 2013, when she didn't announce a ticket until August.

      Delete
    9. Well, 3:56 now you are being nit-picky. Not sure what I said was much different than the Oracle of Bayonne... and he said it first. Is it conventional wisdom? Eenie meenie miney moe? I said "at-Large slate" not "ticket" if you want to be precise.

      Delete
    10. Never realized you took the musings of Al Sullivan as anything other than a deadline-meeting fiction. Surprising. I assumed you would consider yourself better than that. The reality is, if Al wrote that Bhalla and Doyle are confirmed to be on the 2017 Zimmer ticket, then we all know that is complete nonsense. None of us have ever seen him confirm a word of what he writes with the Mayor. I'm sure he hasn't started now. We, here in Hoboken, only give him credit he doesn't at all deserve when we parrot back his content.

      Delete
    11. Hmmm. I really touched a nerve. I don't consider myself "better" than anyone. People make good and bad choices, that's it. And mistakes.

      Delete
    12. It's just a bit disappointing. There is no dependable, local news source. It would be great if you could try to fill that deficit (and by doing so, avoid mere gossip). And since I've started down this path, I would also suggest we pump the brakes a little on the Brian Stack love. Granted, I'd probably take him over Nick S. any day, but he is still a person who holds a mayor position while also representing Hoboken in the NJ Senate. Plus, he put Carmelo Garcia on his ticket years ago, mostly because Ramos stood up to him and Christie and stood with our state's teachers. So, I would hold off too much praise. Is it good that the Mayor is accepting his endorsement? Of course it is. All of our elected officials should nurture relationships with other representatives. However, let's not forget what our primary interests are in this community as the County and the State haven't always treated us nearly as well as they should.

    13. I'm happy to provide whatever content that will not disappoint you. My salary requirements will be in my cover letter. 3 weeks paid vacation, min. Overtime, and on weekends time and a half.

Don't be disappointed- there is a reliable local news source: Hudson County View. Heinis does excellent work. No jokes, no gossip. All news.

The satiric nature of some of the content here seems to fly over your head or else, its just not your bag. Maybe my schtick is not for you? Different strokes, as some say.

    2. But is the "sidekick" correct about Tiffany? Strange bedfellows indeed.

If the bar owners and developers got to choose the next Mayor then this might actually matter and DeFusco and his sidekick would win by acclamation without the need for an election.

Of course if that was how it worked Tiffany wouldn't be the 2nd ward Councilwoman either.

    3. If bar owners got to choose they would choose one of their own Anthony "Stick" Romano. Thankfully they don't get to choose, we have elections.

    4. BTW didn't Roberts have the same "sidekick" as DeFusco now has ?

  10. If the bar owners could choose the next Mayor they would choose Anthony "Stick" Romano, one of their own. Thankfully they don't get to choose and we have elections in Hoboken.

PS: Every speaker at the Chamber of Commerce meeting was pro-economic development. The meeting was civil and no one blasted anyone.
