DeFusco responds to 901 Bloomfield ZBA absences

You may have noticed... yesterday's post caused a cyber-quake on GA; I had to remove dozens of vile, personal attacks spammed by rabid DeFusco supporter(s).

Why?

All GA did was post a bunch of facts- which appeared to contradict rhetoric made at the City Council and on Facebook by presumptive mayoral candidate, Mike DeFusco.

From Mike's Facebook:
"I rallied to preserve the interior of the church at 901 Bloomfield with an idea that imagined a center for community arts, seniors and young families....Though some tried to make this seem unachievable, even political, truth is that they're the same career politicians who've watched for years as an active congregation was turned into condos
That was the rhetoric.

These are the facts:

In 2015, then-ZBA Commissioner DeFusco was absent for every 901 Bloomfield variance application hearing;on August 11, 2015 and  October 20, 2015, when the application was presented, discussed and voted on.  On December 22, the resolution was tweaked and memorialized- DeFusco missed that one, too.

Then KA-BOOM!

Not my fault that facts may cause some to question the rhetoric.

Was DeFusco in effect, one of the "politicians who've watched for years as an active congregation was turned into condos" or was there an explanation for not participating in the 901 Bloomfield application which effectively "turned the church into condos?"

How does the candidate answer that?

Well, GA was glad that Mike DeFusco checked in on Facebook last night to do that.  He's also welcome to post or comment here anytime.

In the spirit of transparency I'll share the Mike's response, and mine.

See how civil and polite that was?

I cannot believe this race has heated up this early. This is strange, even for Hoboken.

So, when does Mike make his mayoral candidacy official?

A little birdie (or a flock) told GA that DeFusco was going to announce on Saint Patrick's Day- Friday, March 17.

Is it true?

Either way, bring on the green beer!

  4. GA

You hit a very raw nerve with the disinfecting sunlight that you shone on Mike's political and disingenuous stunt that he pulled at the CC meeting. Too effing bad if the facts upset anyone, including the clown car full of miscreants with which MD has surrounded himself. He is slowly turning himself into Mason 2.0. Not a good look and not good for political longevity. Some of the comments made yesterday sound a lot like that stinky little fish is back in action. Whoever it is, they are making MD out to be a real tool, idiot, douche bag, moron (take your pick), which I doubt was their intention.

  5. Great work, GA. Mike has obviously gotten mixed up with a bad crowd, he seems respectful when discussing issues with you but I'm not quite sure if it's real or a facade, while his dirty campaign hacks work in the shadows.

I hope Mike's sincerity is real. I have my doubts.

  6. You dweebs wish it were fake news. It's Defusco's real and totally disingenuous faceboook post. It's GA's real reply to it - showing, contrary to YOUR fake news - cordiality and reasonableness.

Elsewhere you have Defusco's real non-attendance at ZBA meetings germane to the subject at hand.

I can see why you'd rather talk about anything else. REAL FACTS are a problem for you kids.

    Here's another REAL FACT.

Hey Defusco - these guys are absolutely destroying your credibility. Whatever was left of it. Pretend you don't know it's going on. That worked real good for Beth.

  9. What a cluster uck DeFusco's run has become.
    One sloppy mistep after another.
First the clumsy fundraiser where Fulop walks away.
The massive story of out of town politco's trying to force Romano off the ballot to clear the way for DeFusco.
Then a stupid City Council stunt that backfires in his face, followed by nothing but backpedaling and excuses.
Throw in a bunch of posts by his crew here on GA which makes him look bad.
Now a second hurried slapped together attempt at a making the "big announcement" on a Friday night that also is St. Pat's Day.

  12. if DePuppet does run... and will lose badly... he's toast for his council re-election.

Dear Mike, I live in the First Ward. What exactly have you done for your constituents?

Is this some long game from the get go? the OG plants you in Terry's place all in the hopes of running you as mayor.

And if the the OG tries to play on progressive values by promoting him as an openly gay man (last time he was in a big glass closet)... I will puke.

  13. 4 DeFusco posts in 4 days--he is now unpure, he is now part of the "other" and so must be questioned, mocked, and ridiculed. Unfounded rumors and innuendos welcomed. Got it. Thanks GA.

    1. Oh,boo hoo. Waaaaaah. The comments/spamming for him are hysterical. None address the factual subject matter (like Mike missing all 3 ZBA hearings on 901 Bloomfield church conversion to condos while lambasting "politicians who've watched for years as an active congregation was turned into condos")... but are personal attacks, using intimidation tactics. Oh yeah, saving all the posts... they will come back to bite your candidate in the ass, since he appears to be too ineffectual to stop them.

Let's be clear. I am a Hoboken resident taxpayer and DeFusco is running to be MY Mayor. Whether he is honest, can be trusted, is a person of character and integrity MATTERS. His Council Resolutions, Campaign videos and public statements on matters of public interest and public concern are all fair comment.

Why the intense focus on personalizing the political discourse? It is political discourse.

BTW, don't you think spamming and intimidation attempts create a bigger stink around your candidate? Were I you (thank G-d I am not) I would ignore. But hey, that's just me.

Oh yeah, it's "impure" not "unpure"- Haw haw.

    2. He hasnt announced he is running for mayor. 4 posts in 4 days indicates the obsession and personal attacks that await this gentleman should he decide to run. 4 posts in 4 days...message received. DeFusco is now unpure--he is fair game and all who may think of supporting him. Bully for you!

    1. @10:56 saying something positive is up to you. That is inherently promotion and advocacy. The subject is a rather disingenuous Facebook post. Perhaps in the course of "saying something positive " you could address it.

For extra credit address why all these people suddenly feel an urge to "say something positive" about an undeclared candidate who has no ELEC filings.

  16. Wow the Trump effect has spread to the Alleged Democrats of Hudson County.

  18. What facts? Defusco didn't vote on zba because he wanted to raise the issue on council without having to recuse? The letter saying a developer wanted four stories? Well academy wanted 14 million and the city didn't accept that -- the 901 letter, was an ask, not a final agreement and his resolution asked for city resources to negotiate. No facts presented here, just spin

    1. Now that's better! A halfway intelligent comment! See? You can do it! Argument is much more effective in Hoboken than spam. You're learning!

    2. So to recap 11:12,

      1) Defusco blew off ZBA meetings to avoid having to recuse himself from a council seat he didn't have.

      2) OTHER people are spinning.

Follow-up question- what duties is he blowing off as a councilman to keep his slate clean for the mayor's job he doesn't have?

I'll say it again - unless he is paying you clowns to destroy him, he's getting ripped off.

      Delete
    3. Or these clowns are sabotaging DeFusco's unofficial run / aspirations for becoming Mayor. What they succeeding at is having MDF brought up more and more. Much like Trump, there may be no such thing as bad press when it's elevating a relatively unknown Councilman into a contender.

      Delete
    4. *are succeeding at*

    5. 12:39, the analogy to Trump is off tho.

Ask Matt "Flashlight" Calicchio if all press is good press. He sank that BOE ticket.

We don't have real press of any relevance here. Blogs fill the gap. Moreover a lot of local knowledge is shared. Volunteers, opinion-makers, etc. It's a fishbowl. Things are magnified. You're right - people didn't know much about Defusco. Now they know that he gives slippery explanations and a chorus of the usual suspects get bent out of shape when he gets called out for it.

If that's what he wanted, he got it. But the ops should update their invoices to better describe the service rendered.

      Delete
    6. 12:39- that's an interesting point! But remember, Trump didn't win over the Hoboken demographic- Hillary did. And, Hoboken doesn't have an electoral college to hand it to Trump-lite. So, the kind of grunting, swaggering and mean-spirited posts (in my folder) are good for the mayor. Why do you think I am allowing you?

But honestly, I wish you guys would take on the arguments. That would be interesting and who knows, you might win people over.

      Delete
    7. One more thing, 12:39. DeFusco is not an "unknown" in Hoboken. Remember, he pushed Terry off her broomstick? She was riding the thing for how many terms? 4? 5? 6? Before my time. Why do you think he is "unknown"?

You know, having MDF brought up in the context of thugs bullying a locally-known partisan female blogger is not "good" for him. You'll learn. Maybe!

      Delete
  19. This is 12:39 - I'm just worried the trolls talking up MDF is increasing his popularity. @GA sorry for the confusion, all the posts as Anons confusing things. Definitely not accurate with Trumpy comparison, but my concern stems from not taking candidates seriously until out of the blue, they turn into actual competitors. I do hope all the new residents, voters, reform-minded Hoboken people come out to vote when the time comes so we don't leave it in the hands of the OG-VBM fraudsters!

    1. Unknown referred to here:

"According to an internal poll conducted in January by Zimmer’s team and released to Observer by the source close to Zimmer, the sitting mayor’s popularity is slightly over 70 percent among Hoboken residents. In the same poll, DeFusco was found to be relatively unknown to the majority of those polled. The poll did not identify DeFusco as a potential mayoral challenger. Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Romano was identified as one of those potential challengers, however insiders say that the long-rumored candidate may not run in 2017 and may instead back Zimmer or DeFusco."

  20. For the record, the only issue DeFusco would have had to recuse on with respect to the church property would have been an appeal to the City Council of the granting of the variance.

Mr. DeFusco seems to be saying he would have had to recuse with respect to anything before the Council - specifically that he could not have introduced the resolution in question.

That is simply not true. Mr. DeFusco is either lying about that or or mistaken, depending on just how ignorant he is about the issue. In any event it's pretty obvious making up a BS excuse after the fact for his absences at the ZBA. Its pretty obvious he was busy campaigning for the 1st ward seat and didn't give a rat's ass about this church turning into condos.

Stop digging Mike. Learn something and move on. That's what smart people do and folks are starting to wonder a bit about your smarts.

  21. Wouldn't it be interesting if Romano ran for Freeholder in June and then win or lose jumped into the mayoral race splitting the OG vote just to get even for getting shafted ?
