Romano's Tattletale Cup

Sponsors adorn the cup... will they be reported on Romano2017 ELECs?

It's one thing to let a secret out of  the bag - it's quite another to print your big secret on a cup!

Anthony Romano is coyly building a war-chest to tackle Mayor Zimmer, while asking donors to make checks payable to "Romano for Freeholder."  Well, that's my opinion.

Anthony Romano needs campaign cash like an amputee needs rubber crutches.

According to New Jersey Watchdog, Romano collected a $122,312.40 pension (wow!) in 2014, lives in public housing (wow!), owns a thriving bar business on Washington Street, owns Hoboken real estate...

NJ.com: The list, culled from state Treasury Department data, included 1,988 retired public workers at the close of 2014.

Anthony Romano's got plenty of money to self-finance - he even carries a $77,600 outstanding obligation to Romano for Freeholder!

Romano for Freeholder's last ELEC filed - General Election, 11-day pre-election- June 24, 2014

So, Romano's begun fundraising,  he's hired talent, Pablo Fonseca (as reported on Hudson County View)  while election day (November 7, 2017)  is 1 year, 8 months and 9 days- away.

Oh yeah, since 2011 he has filed under "Romano for Freeholder." Now he's running as "Romano2017"- no more "Freeholder."

Did we really need that tattletale cup to tell us that Romano2017 was a mayoral campaign?

No.

But, in case anyone didn't get it, just ask the Tattletale cup bartender, who introduced himself on the Chamber Train as "Anthony Romano's Chief-of-Staff" and loudly bad-mouthed Romano's next opponent,  Mayor Zimmer.

Yep, the obnoxious loud mouth bartender was heard trash-talking Zimmer on issues from flood protection  to Washington Street redesign, or "ripping Zimmer at length" as one witness put it.

If Pablo is reading this- you may want to reconsider your choice of "Chief of Staff." Give me a call.

Speaking of the Tattletale cup, did you notice one curious sponsor-  a subsidiary of a huge New Jersey realtor-landlord.   GA means huge.

A friend who noticed this sponsor said, "I am surprised they allowed their name on that cup.  While Romano and Branco are politicos, they are a major property owner of major import in the region. This cup triggers an ELEC event."

"This cup triggers an ELEC event."

WOW.  I'll have to have a conversation with my source, Deep Cup.

  1. This is Hoboken, Stick and Cabana Boy don't need your stinkin' campaign rules. As Terry used to say, "Hoboken is different". Get used to it, all you bike lane loving yuppies!! This is OUR TOWN!!

  3. Are you referring to Dixon Leasing as the big sponsor? They are a HUGE realtor/landlord. They are also the major sponsoring organisation of The Waterfront Project (where Dan Bryon sits on the board) so I imagine Dixon Leasing will be hedging their campaign contribution bets in the next mayoral election campaign.

    1. Yes!

I admit I hadn't heard of them, but my friend sure did. He couldn't understand why a company of that stature would lend their name to a political campaign- and so early. "Romano2017" as a campaign doesn't exist yet, nothing's been filed since 2014. So he was surprised to see this huge realtor/landlord endorsement of "Romano2017" on that cup. But, you imagine this company will likely contribute to (for example) Zimmer and any other mayoral candidates, too.

Well, all this giving this does "trigger an ELEC event!"

That's nice they are a major sponsor of The Waterfront Project- which isn't a partisan political group.

    2. Dixon donates to all sides. Dixon has large investments in Jersey City where Romano also serves the Freeholder district. They will probably give to Zimmer, and you can bet Bhalla. Like T&M associates giving to Zimmer's PAC. The vendors and developers have found a way around Hoboken's local P2P ordinances and certain political lawyers are serving as Pit Bosses in that shell game

    3. Thanks, Anon @ 6:50 AM- great to hear that they donate to all sides.

    4. My guess is Romano is actually telling everyone he is officially running for Freeholder. He has a long way to go before he will have enough confidence to throw his hat into the ring for Mayor of Hoboken. His voting base for Freeholder relied heavily on Jersey City. He would not be the demographical choice for Hoboken today or in two years. And the recent council wins - 1st and 2nd wards in particular - must give him a lot of pause in terms of his ability to get enough support for Victory. Also, it is obvious that Ruben is gunning for Mayor. He has a much better chance than Romano IMHO.

  4. Stick Romano tries so hard to look like Mr. Nice Guy but is looking more and more like the sleaze balls he hangs with.

  5. I don't get why candidates carry big loan obligations. Beth Mason carried over $300k in debt from loans to her campaigns since 2009. I think she finally forgave the debt. Sticks got $77k in debt, which he can forgive anytime. But he hasn't, not yet.

    1. Just guessing but if he can continue to raise funds from others to pay for the $77K he gets paid back. If Anthony forgave the loan he wouldn't have that option.

  6. Anthony is the scumbag we have to thank for the stolen BOE election. Not surprised he is collecting money through is freeholder account to launder into his mayoral account and hired that inbred moron Branco to help. Joe is lost if he doesn't have a boot to lick. He seems happy again.

    1. Really feeling offended you make reference to an inbred moron and tie that to Joe Branco. First of all, most inbred morons are pretty nice, docile and friendly. They don't gravitate to boot licking. Sometimes they gravitate to some familial carpet munching but I digress.

Nazi Truck Joe on the other hand is building a sterling record. How is the shooter from the Move Forward campaign doing? Hillary would be so proud to be walking away from that indictment.

    2. Little Joe Branco has established a record of supporting the actions of that boot licking inbred moron and his boss lady.
Then their was the licking of Carmelo Garcia's dirty boots for years.
