Once Upon a Time (on the NHSA)

Hudson Dispatch Editorial, August 27, 1990

Does anybody remember The Hudson Dispatch?  Neither do I.

It was a newspaper serving Hudson and Bergen counties from 1874 until 1991.  In 1991, the Dispatch was bought, and merged with it's competitor, The Jersey Journal.

Anyway, today's topic was introduced yesterday in a series of anonymous comments, one of whom concluded: "Posting the article would certainly be better than just characterizing it so I hope that you will."

Good idea, Anon @ 2:25 PM.

We can leave it to our City Councilpersons to decide on the relevance of this information when they appoint the next North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) commissioner.

  1. Thanks, GA. This is brilliant. I wish that paper was still around.

  2. Carmelo got canned for improper transactions with vendors.

  3. Wow. Can you imagine having THAT kind of local media today? Can you imagine how they would have raked Carmelo over the coals? Mason? The SLAPPers?

  4. This is a very interesting situation. Kurt has been an ally of Zimmer, that is known. Raia has been an ally to Zimmer in a round about secret way. Who will she select? Her core group of Reformers surely want the giant.

    What will happen?

Kurt would do well with this appointment. Raia is free loading health benefits because he is to cheap to buy a policy. Another person leaching off the system.

Realizing that it was a popular move to add another pump with Zimmer by his side, Raia finally came through with a new pump, but why does that take 20 years?

I say PUNT Raia Zimmer! New Blood would be good and needed.

Or is there already a deal with Raia....

    1. I've always doubted that Zimmer would have some secret deal with Raia as some have alleged. If Raia had run in the 3rd then maybe, but since he didn't run what would be the point of any deal?

Regardless this appointment may shed some light on that rumor!

    2. I have always been adverse to putting any credence in rumors that originate in the Russo club house.

    3. FYI The Mayor does not select anyone for the NHCSA it is the choice of the City Council. Remember the tumult over Tony Soares getting voted on with the vote by Michael Russo ?

      Delete
    4. Yep, and the Mayor was also upset when a certain councilman / runningmate of hers voted "yes" for Frank going against the rest of reform last time.

So how can anyone vote for Pupie after learning about his his dirty dealings on the NHSA?

    ReplyDelete
  6. How do we know that the only alternative to Pupie is Kurt? With a 7 vote majority Pupie better be out.

But, just because Kurt has put himself out there as interested doesn't mean that another person isn't in the running. I have not heard of anyone else, but I'm not someone who would.

    1. Very true. Word on the street is no one else has put in an application, but you never know. What I do know is, Kurt is a stellar candidate, honest and trustworthy among other attributes that would make him an excellent public servant, but ALL applicants should be given fair consideration on their merits and their RECORD.

      Delete
    2. There was a potential stellar candidate who might have entered the fray for the NHSA position. But they decided not to make the commitment with other competing responsibilities.

My understanding is that very well respected person in our community is also getting behind Kurt Gardiner for the NHSA seat.

      Delete
    3. I'm curious who the candidate is and also who is backing Kurt. I'm sure I'll find out the latter when the endorsement is released. I'll probably never find out the former.

As long as Raia is removed we will be in better shape than we are now.

    4. Hang on Sloopy. You may that person among the line to speaking in favor of Kurt next week at the council meeting.

  7. Surely remember it. You would find some interesting things in the old archives.

  8. Look closer. There are more ethics lapses hiding in plain sight.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If anyone thinks Zimmer has a Solid, Loyal or reliable 7-2 majority they are wrong. Juts look at last week's council appointments

I think we need more "millennials" and "young Families in need of a 3rd bedroom " on the NHSA. After all, the 30 the " young families" shit stinks too!

  10. Bernie Kenny isn't too happy with Kurt Gardiner right now, this throws his Old Guard diplomatic efforts with Hoboken and the North Hudson Cities into a real mess.
How will he explain to Mayor Roque, Turner and Stack one of them needs to adopt the Poopster again?

    2. Funny I heard Bernie Kenny has been very happy with the way things have been going in Hoboken.
I also think Mayor Roque already has worked out a deal with Raia and Russo so this should it come as any sort of surprise that Hoboken will have a replacement.
I hear that the steaks at Ruth Chris's sometimes come with a side of back room politics. LOL

    3. Do you mean the Senator Bernie Kenny who Councilwoman Giattino asked to swear her in and who did challenger training for reform challengers in this past election? Is that the Bernie Kenny you are referring to?

      Delete
    4. Anon at 4:47 WAIT!!! Are you saying Bernie Kenny who's Law Firm has a city contract made "in Kind " contributions of legal advice/ "challenger training " What happen to Hoboken's Pay to Play Laws?

  11. So Raia was a nice guy on this blog when he was against Russo and the lesser of two evils so to speak, but now he as bad as Russo ever was?
    Hmmm....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No. Raia's an old-time "you do for me, I do for you" type but not an evil bloodthirsty crook like Russo and clan. Big dif.

    2. Did you actually READ Nancy's post about Raia's conflicts above before you made that statement?

      Delete
    3. RE: Raia versus Russo, I certainly rate Frank the lesser of two evils. He's not good government by any stretch, but clearly "better" that the Russos.

    4. Anon @ 2:53- I must have done a few dozen posts over the years on vote farming, siphoning money from the BoE, voter fraud etc. Nothing "nice" about those activities. Nothing "nice" about accepting a $5K bribe on FBI surveillance tape, either. "Hmmmmm...?"

  12. Throwing your sugar daddy (and getting his estate) off a roof isn't "Blood Thirsty"?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It really depends how high the roof is. If a sugar daddy is tossed off a one-story or a trailor, no problem. If the sugar daddy is tossed off, let's say a four-story rooftop, and SPLAT....... uh-oh.

      Delete
    2. Correct, Anon 6:55. It's simple PHYSICS.

The speed, or velocity, at which a sugar daddy hits the ground is in proportion with the height from which he is tossed. Acceleration is a measure of how quickly the velocity of a hurtling sugar daddy changes. So, the acceleration is the change in the velocity of the sugar daddy, divided by the time it takes for him to hit the sidewalk. Acceleration has a magnitude (a value) and a direction. The direction of the acceleration of the falling sugar daddy does not have to be the same as the direction of the sugar daddy's velocity. The units for acceleration are meters per second squared (m/s2).

      a = sugar daddy acceleration (m/s2)
vf = the final velocity (SPLAT) (m/s)
vi = the initial velocity (OOPS!) (m/s)
t = the time in which the change occurs (s)
Δv = short form for "the change in" velocity (m/s)

    3. Professor: say you throw a sugar daddy and a penny off a roof together, which hits the ground first?

      Delete
    4. In a vacuum both objects would hit at the same time according to my laws of motion. However in atmosphere the sugar daddy would likely have a higher drag coefficient than the penny and hit slightly after. For any dropping of objects into large pools of flood water like what happens at Shop Rite I will defer to Juan Melli in the Mayor's Administration since he has PH.D. In fluid dynamics. Lol

    5. Professor HeinsenburgJanuary 15, 2016 at 1:46 PM

I am so uncertain that I came up with a principle of uncertainty on this. If I observed the sugar daddy falling along with penny I could actually influence the outcome simply by observing. Therefore I never saw the sugar daddy being pushed off the roof. I deny it. The perpetrator of the case of the pushed sugar daddy off the roof. That is the only thing I am certain about!

  14. The citizens of Hoboken desperately need a real newspaper.
Most local people buy the JJ for the obituaries and crosswords.
Most local people dont read the Hoboken Reporter and if they did, they would not be more informed after they read it.
The old Hudson Dispatch was great.

  15. 7 Council people painted into a corner.
Congrats to Kurt, for ensuring Bhalla, and Mello don't drift and vote for Raia.
We all know Bhalla would vote for whatever is best for Bhalla and Mello is good pals with Frank (Hola!) Raia- he'd gladly break reform ranks AGAIN for his DelFino's pizza party buddy

Kurt's going to be a great commissioner while Zimmer and Kenny's deal with the devil up....

  16. I think what happened to pay to play is that its a law to be complied with not a slogan for an ignorant small minded political schemer to throw around hoping his audience doesn't understand it.

IIt's kind of odd that Senator Kenny's name was even brought up in this thread. I suppose you have your reasons - if you want to know why I called you a small minded political schemer you will find the answer there.

    1. Pay to play comes in many forms

But I guess Kenny 2.0 is okay now even though when he was Roberts puppet master he was the problem
      People don't magically transform

  17. Well Well Well... Anyone see the agenda for the Council? Commissioner Brian Assadourian is going for Raia's seat ALL WHILE STILL HAVING THREE YEARS LEFT ON HIS OWN APPOINTMENT! What kind of Zimmer BULLS$hit is this? We all know Assadourian is BEST FRIENDS with both mayors.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Whoa! That can't be legal! Assidorian has to vacate his seat first- in which case there are 2 open seats. NHSA Counsel Leanza is Raia is like Daglian was to Carmelo- corporation counsel will have to throw this out.

      Delete
    2. Assadourian didn't do this on his own.
Why is a REFORMER being blocked by a personal friend of Dawn Zimmer?
A cynical attempt to stop Gardiner by giving Bhalla and Mello a 3rd option so Raia slips in with a 5 vote majority by Russo, Ramos , Cunningham, DeFusco and Mello.....

      Delete
    3. Really? So you not only know who Dawn Zimmer's best friend is, but you also know that every single one of us knows it too.

      Damn, you're good.

      Delete
    4. Everyone knows Assadourian is Stans BFF. just ask them, there's nothing to be ashamed of, but back on topic, THE POINT HERE IS, there is no reason for Assadourian to do this TODAY, Kurt was the reform choice witha 7-2 Reform Council... SOMETHING SMELLS and it ain't the sewer system...

      Delete
    5. Yeah, it SMELLS. Assidourian is serving a 5 year term and has 3 years of it left. This shitty maneuver is to block Kurt and let Poopie get in with 4 votes. Assidourian still has his seat, Poopie gets in. A Reform admin pulls a scumbag move on a loyal Reformer. Which council members will play ball?

      Delete
    6. This wreaks of politics. PURE old boy Hudson County Politics. The kind of stunts that usually happen in diners, steakhouses after meetings and even lunches in NYC where you go unnoticed by voters.
Now who really thinks Brian Assadourian decided to do this on his own? The guy who has applied to the NHSA 3 times in 4 years.
Applying while he's still a commissioner now wanting to add 5 more to his tenure while barely finishing 2 years of his current 5 year term!
Zimmer reaching into the cesspool of former HUDCO lawyers associated with Gov. Florio, The Barry's, Bobby J, Dave Roberts and Anthony Russo shows the more things "Change" the more they stay the same. Now we all know Zimmer will probably send her snotty little former "Chief of Snark" on here and the Hudson reporter to sarcastically attack any critics but that won't stop the wheels from coming off the wagon...or bicycle!

    7. REEKS but then again Wreaks could be a nice pun
