Mason is "General Partner" in Weehawken Bar - UPDATE

Update 08/18/2015:

A GA reader forwarded a spreadsheet entry from New Jersey's ABC website; the liquor license "name" on Mason's bar is registered to Mason's LLC:

GA has OPRAed additional information.  In any case, an alcohol license is valuable; one online auction for a Type 32 in Weehawken  has an asking price of $350,000.  Another auction in Fort Lee, for a Type 33 (the type that Mason's bar has)  is asking $375,000; one in Wayne is asking $400,000.

Wow.  Where did a slippery, greasy fish get that kind of money?

Well folks, there's nothing illegal about Beth Mason co-owning a bar with her longtime political operative, James Barracato.  You remember him?

It just seems unusual-  even bizarre, for  Hoboken's 2nd ward Councilwoman to buy a bar with her chief political operative; the operative has influenced Hoboken public affairs for years, substituted for the Councilwoman on confidential city emails, ran numerous campaigns and dirty tricks against Mason's political enemies including but not limited to a Nazi Truck, a SLAPP suit, and midnight fliers.

That is my OPINION.

2nd Ward Councilwoman Mason is "General Partner"of this Weehawken bar

  1. Why on Earth would a Hoboken Councilwoman want to get involved with ownership of a bar? It appears "run down at best" in my opinion. I can't imagine, in my opinion, she would have anything to do with day to day operations. Peculiar

Hey, on a completely unrelated note does anyone watch Ray Donovan on Showtime? Such a good show. Very dramatic. On the show Ray occasionally needs to launder money and he does so through a run down Boxing Gym that his family has. All manner of sin is covered by the gym. Money funneled in the front door and out the back. Even no show jobs on paper. Anyways it was on last night so that is what me think of it. Check it out if you can

    1. Mason testified at Lane Bajardi's trial that she pays Finboy, and they're partners in this bar. How does she pay him?

  8. Freeholder Stick's bar is respectable. Nice place, nice crowd. Nothing to be ashamed of nothing to hide. Never heard Mason talk about her bar or promote it in any way. How come?

    2. The liquor license is registered to Hoboken Councilwoman Mason's llc. She's the principal of the llc, Finboy's the agent, (a.k.a. mail opener, Girl Friday. ) In my OPINION, its her license. In my OPINION, Finboy's like a kept woman, except his sugar daddy is a sugar mama and he's allegedly male.

  10. You can be an agent of a corporation without holding any stake in it or being a partner in it. Case in point the Company Corporation can be the registered Agent and not be a shareholder of that corporation, if you registered the company though them and don't live in the state. All register agents must live in the state that company is formed in. The Business Charter only has him listed as a agent not as a member, managing member or principle. He might not even own 1 percent of that bar. Beth could have put up all the money and he could just be an employee of the company.
The only way to really know is to OPRA there liquor license application. Anyone can OPRA there liquor license application to see exactly who owns it and where the funds came from to purchase the liquor license. You would have to submit it to the Weehawken's clerks office, or the state ABC.

  11. Anyone remember that shady kabob restaurant down by the CVS? That is what this bar reminds me of.

  12. An honest person may have have bought it for the liquor license so they can move it to Weehawken's waterfront or to redo the place and turn into something nice.
This looks more like a bailout or a tax shelter at best.
The liability for a political person to own bar is huge.
Imagine the wannabe Lt Governor or " Senator" was involved with any business that is a bar? Issues that can come up like shootings, under age drinking or date rapes? Why would anyone buy into that risk? They should rename this place the Laundromat Bar or The Shelter ....

  13. Come now, Ricky Mason's partners love going here for Wine and Scotch Tastings as he tells stories of his early struggles with Beth when they moved to Hoboken telling landlords they were just "a nice Italian Couple" starting out....

  14. I have a soft spot for dive bars, especially in this maze of cheerless flat-screened drinking salons. But when someone with Beth's unwavering class pretensions owns it, I smell a rat.

Get the rodent autopsy board on the line.

  17. A single door blocked partially by a metal pillar and bars on the one tiny window, that doesn't seem like it would meet any current fire codes.

  18. I'm curious to see what information comes back on the OPRA request. In my opinion, it looks like Mason owns the bar and the liquor license. Finboy's title is "agent" which is like a secretary to the boss. The bar generates revenue, but Mason doesn't take any according to her Financial Disclosure form. The bar was renovated in 2014. Most probably Mason paid. In my opinion, Finboy is tied to Mason unless he buys her out, or else she could sell the bar out from under him and kick his flippers to the curb. That's a good idea because bar ownership is risky for a politician. In any event, it is an unseemly relationship, particularly for a Hoboken elected official. Oh yeah, that's my opinion.

  19. This is getting a bit boring. I get the whole self help bit for those seven of you that feel scorned by Mason, but when will we get back to attacking charter school parents? The school year is about to start and we are getting no where. Come on Leon, throw another $20 into the pile, what's a few less coffees?

Personally I do care if my town's elected officials are involved in filth like this. I think they should be called out for it and suffer the consequences when they do wrong

    2. Simple, then don't read the comments, or, for that matter, don't visit the site. Perhaps even better, put up your own blog site and then you can control the posts and the dialogue. Naw, you wont do anything like that, because that's just the way you troll.
