3 Tickets form

GA largely agrees with MSV's zomborgland on the formation of three tickets in next November's municipal election.

The only difference is that GA sees a post-Beth Mason era.  The Russos have denied Mason even an honorary slot on Hoboken's Democratic Committee; if Peter Biancamano wants to run, Mason will be denied a place on Raia's ticket.

Beth Mason is an outcast in Hoboken politics, a status unlikely to change as enemies in Jersey City consolidate political power in Northern New Jersey on their journey to Trenton.  The implosion of the SLAPP suit, (on track for historic fees/sanctions in NJ) which email evidence proves was aided and abetted by her closest aid, James Barracato, will have consequences for all involved.

Then, there is the pending trial for Mason's claims of "harassment" against a horse.  GA does not see this as going anywhere but far south for the alleged 'victim.'

So, GA excludes Mason from Ticket C.  For now.

Ticket A:
1st Ward Terry Castellano
2nd Bonnie Murray
3rd Michael Russo
4th Ruben Ramos
5th Eduardo Gonzales
6th Carmelo Garcia

Ticket B:
1st Ward: Michael DeFusco
2nd Tiffanie Fisher
3rd X
4th Dana Wefer
5th Peter Cunningham
6th Jennifer Giattino

Ticket C:
1st Ward: X
2nd  Peter Biancamano
3rd Frank Raia
4th Tim Occhipinti
5th X
6th X

So far, no Reform giant-slayer for the 3rd Ward but a challenge from Frank Raia.  Go, Frank!

Interesting possible First Ward candidate on the Reform Ticket- Mike DeFusco.  GA knows Mike; I served on the ZBA with him for 2 years.

Well folks, to be continued....

  1. Wow, Zimmer can't complete a ticket? 7 years and the net gain is Jen Giatinno.
Love her, too bad Zimmer can't get any progressive folks in third ward and what's with the Cammarano \Ramos guy in the 1st?
    Maybe he's good, maybe not?

If I remember right Greg Lincoln joined the 3rd Ward race late and did much better then people expected on Tony and Michele's turf. Things have changed since then and they have not been in the Russo's favor.

If Frank Raia runs in the 3rd against Mike Russo it might be a good strategic move to not run a reform candidate and split the vote.

Barracato was shopping thumb drives with old smears on Bertoli to members of the media. No one cared, and apparently Bertoli caught wind of it. Mind you, he had mentored Barracato, and word has it, got him his alleged "$150K cash off the books" gig with Mason.

    Dear Editor:

I would like to congratulate the 4th Ward’s newly elected councilman, Tim Occhipinti, for running a positive and issue-based campaign. Despite unwarranted attacks from his opponent, Tim stuck to the issues and the voters responded for change. Having known Tim for a number of years, I can affirm that the residents of the 4th Ward elected a good man whose integrity is rock solid, whose ideas are pragmatic and whose optimism is infectious. The 4th Ward desperately needed a dedicated representative, not a politician, to address a number of issues, and they’ve now found that in their new councilman.

Now, the time has come for City Council to get to work and, more importantly, work together to benefit our city. I believe that Councilman Occhipinti will be a strong voice for his constituents and bring a sense of reason to the council. To that end, I encourage the council members to work with their new colleague to pass legislation, not point fingers. I would hate to see politics get in the way of progress.

Yes, politics make strange bedfellows, but this is beyond the pale. How does reform plan on handling and blogging about all the election season VBM harvest if we're supposed to jump on the Go Frank train? It also proved that many in the 3rd Ward were looking for an alliterative to the Russo family.

I heard Michele Russo got crazy that anyone dared stand up to them.

I also hear Castellano's son and campaign manager is worried that mommy could be out on her butt.

Admittedly a tenuous connection/reasoning, but if Ramos is a stand in for Russo, and Occhipinti for Raia, a good third candidate has a shot in a three way race in the 3rd if they pick up roughly 30 more voters than the Mayor. Essentially 1324 voters said no to a ramos/russo ticket in the third out of 2388 casting votes. .

Thieving is thieving. Imperfect men steal, too. Raia was BoE president, Carmelo Garcia was BoE VP in 2005-2006 when this happened (refer to KPMG audit), and posted on this blog:

BoE jobs bank post (1,015 employees with no named title, missing names, work site location, etc.),

  23. People voicing objection to Old Guard candidates and allies is not trolling.
Critiquing the Mayor or her supporter's projections does not make you an angry developer.
The Mayor and her inner circle were once very much entertaining and suggesting to Kid's First that they desired a joint ticket with Carmelo Garcia and Peter Biancomono for Board of Education, seriously supporting Joe Branco for 6th Ward and appointed some seriously disappointing people to the HHA originally.
Thankfully the pushback from Kid's First and the Mayor reconsidering and recruiting Giatinno those candidates were never more than suggestions and ideas thrown in the trash heap. But to deny it happened is either foolish or intentionally misleading the public. One quote Belfiore is famous for is "Reform eats their own" In current reform it's a well recount fact that The Mayor and Her Husband do not want anyone from the past. Especially older reform organizers. It's funny here how the criticisms about appointments, body shapes, and childish innuendo reads more like a Lane Bajardi -Sara S. Email chain than reform.

The Mayor has made bad choices in the past and so have many reformers. It's okay. It's also okay that we as voters and stakeholders in our city hold their feet to the fire while also moving ahead. It used to be Reformers did things before being cosmically anointed and plucked from unfinished tenures on the HHA, The Planning Board or The Committee du jour .
People that fought for Rent Control, Waterfront Parks, Better Schools... Those folks faced less scrutiny when selected for office because people knew them from a track record, not a 2 -3 year stint on a board or two.
The talent pool is small so it's okay, but to attack anyone for simply voicing opposition to the Mayor's rumored "slate" or possible alternate "lesser of two evils" is nonsense. The Tent is big , unfortunately there's still way too much room in it because so many people are not allowed in or easily kicked out. If one reads the way Indie is treated on MSV for being rent control advocate you will see what I'm talking about. Ironically, Kid's First, Indie and a few others are the secret screen name supporters of Zimmer's punching bags even though those folks have been on the forefront of the issues the Mayor often supports. Rent Control has been Indie's thing for Decades, Kid's First formed long before Reform held City Hall.
Marsh and Healy saved 1600 Park from a 26 story tower....

    2. Anon July 10:00 am you make some great points and I think many of your observations are valid and should be taken to heart by people of all political stripes who support good government and inclusiveness. Where I respectfully disagree is on your angle that the problem lies entirely with the administration. I do not agree with the administration 100% of the time and would not want to be one of the online "yes people", but I do think any challenges people have with including everyone who wants to be included is that there is at least one individual who has a well known tendency to go ballistic when he doesn't get his way and then proceeds to attack people with personal vitriol that rivals or exceeds the Bajardi twins. Perhaps some of the nastiness comes back and cuts both ways, but the peskiest puzzle in keeping Hoboken reformers united has always been "how do you solve a problem like *******", and that hasn't changed one bit, unfortunately. When someone can figure that one out, I'd wager "can't we all just get along" will be a happy question for people to answer.

Yes, attack the one or two characters that for some reason stereotypically can be pegged with "angry" and run with it. 11:04 is the 2nd coming of Prosbus. Maybe 11:04's along with Prosbus and Zomborg kissed and made up ? Business lunches are a great place to make peace

  24. What I don't get about this entire debate is the only people who have to choose between Raia and Russo are third ward residents. If they are unhappy with those two choices then perhaps one of them should run. The rest of us have no say in the matter and there is no use complaining until after the election. Third ward residents, step up to the plate already if you don't like your two choices.

    1. The rest of us live with the results. The Third , Fourth and First Wards are not islands. The council votes on all issues
Especially Bonding! The Mayor needs SIX solid votes for bonding. BONDING WILL BE NEEDED IF SHE WANTS THE OMA FLOOD /RESILIENCY PLAN.
Lets look down the road beyond the election. $250 Million ( split between Jersey City, Hoboken and Weehawken ) is not enough to fund that massive Resilency plan never mind maintaining it perpetually . Russo being the SIXTH VOTE allows him to HORSE TRADE. LIKE THE HORES TRADING THE CITY IS DOING FOR HIM BY ALLOWING A DEVELOPER TO GET 600 APTs at 16 stories at 700 Monroe in exchange for RUSSO PARK at the Pino's site. Russo is a genius, he has Zimmer wrapped around his finger, git her to build a bigger park in his ward than her own and also satisfy developers. The Council is keeping this MASSIVE PLAN UNDER WRAPS UNTIL AFTER NOVEMBER.

    2. The council votes on all issues but only third ward residents can run for office in the third ward or vote in the third ward. So it really doesn't matter if we don't like the 2 guys running in the third so far b/c while we have to live w/ whomever wins, we have no say in the matter. Your complaining about those 2 is about as useful as complaining about who is running for Governor in PA.

    3. That's the dumbest post yet. If the 3rd ward doesn't matter than either does Mason in the 2nd. Keep trying desperado...

    4. There is a reformer running in the 2nd ward we can support dipshit. You don't like the fact no reformer is running in the 3rd, then get off your fat arse and run. Til then stuff a sock in it.

  25. I have voted against Raia and Russo every chance I get. I voted for Mr. Lincoln. I have literally written in 'The Devil'. Maybe with both Raia and Russo in the race, it is the year to run a reformer. Let Russo and Raia to cut into each others votes.

Why won't I run? Scared, intimidated by the responsibility and the depths that Russo's and Raia's supporters will go to to stop someone from running. Do you blame me?
