STOP Christie from taking $528,000 MORE out of Hoboken District Schools

New Jersey legislators are finalizing the 2015-16 state budget this week!

CLICK HERE to drop Christie's plan to defund Hoboken district schools in the dumpster!  It only takes a minute.

And don't miss!

As GA posted on Monday, Christie's budget freezes Hoboken district school funding while increasing funding for charters at "2016 or 2014 per pupil enrollment whichever is higher,"  Hoboken district will be defunded another $528,000 on top of the state funding formula for Charters.

Folks, the continual defunding of public education in Hoboken district schools is unsustainable.

Christie's message to our schools: "drop dead."

David Sciarra, the Executive Director of NJ's Education Law Center said “The Governor provides no funding increase to support the education of district students, but then instructs districts to transfer more of their limited funds to charters to make sure they don’t suffer the same cuts districts are now implementing in their schools. The solution is for the Legislature to reject the Governor’s hold harmless proposal and instead increase state school aid for all students in 2015-16. ” -

Well folks, here is where you can do it.

Please add your voice to the thousands of New Jersey residents fighting to protect critically needed resources in our district schools.

  1. Expect silence from hoboken's outgoing assemblyman. Would like to hear Annette's opinion even if she can't vote.

    2. Ramos and Garcia's kids are the racial diversity in Hola. The rest of the student body is mainly comprised of blond and blue eyes.

Yet Ramos and Garcia had no problem kicking the boys and girls club kids to the curb so their little Latinos and their white friends could play duck duck goose.

  4. Privatizing the nation's public school system is a plank in the Republican platform and part of their overall agenda. Demoralizing and disenfranchising public school teachers and the swift approval of charter schools which don't meet the standards for such, (and most of Hoboken's don't), granting their expansion and hollowing out the public schools are just several steps toward making that happen.

  5. Hi, I just head that the Appellate Court of the state of New Jersey denied the Hoboken Board of Education's motion to stay Hola's 7th and 8th grade. This is the third straight loss fo the BOE in this matter. Can you tell us what the BOE will do next. It really feels, as a taxpayer, that they're wasting our money trying to shut down a successful school, not to mention, dividing a community. Enough is enough.

    1. Where did you get the idea that the school was ever in jeopardy? As you stated this is about the expansion of the 7th and 8th grade.

    2. What a phony post.

You know about the BoE's "Motion to Stay Hola's 7th and 8th grade" expansion at the Appellate but you DON'T know the BoE is using private money (not "wasting taxpayer money") and no one is trying to "shut down" your school, only stop the expansion. It is your kind of rhetoric that tries to "divide the community," most of whom are served by district schools.

      "Enough is enough" with misinformation.

As far as "successful"- by what metric are you measuring its success? The word is there are more than a few disgruntled parents who are less than satisfied with education their kids are getting, and some are pulling (or thinking of pulling) their children out.

But this post is about District schools being bled dry by the Gov, not the BoE. If you have a question for them, go to the next meeting and ask it.

    3. Let's recap:

Waste money by carrying four (4) school administrations.

Not shutting down but stopping financially crippling expansion.

Successful = Kicking out special needs, poor and low performing students.

First decision by independent court but not based on the full merits. All prior decisions by Christie lickspittle with marching orders to destroy teachers' union and privatize public education.

Go back to Texas PetroAssino. Or whoever Hola rube you happen to be.

    4. Where do we send money to support the Boes fight to stop expansion?

These charters are killing the taxpayers! Talk about bloat! Teachers are paid a piddlance while the admins get rich. How much is the Founder Jen Sargent being paid? $150k? What are the other admins getting paid?

If you can't see the duplication in administration your blind.

How many kids is the Wallace principal and vp responsible for?

How many kids is the Connors principal and vp responsible for?

How many kids is the Calabro principal and vp responsible for?

Tell me how many kids is the principal and vp at Hola responsible for?

  6. To anon at 4:10. No, it is the charter cheerleaders that have made this a divisive issue. The charter cheerleaders try to vilify anyone who supports the "district public schools", so to them enough is enough. If they want private school, let them pay for it.

  7. @4:10 Shut down? Really? Successful? In relation to what? Next you'll say the school's innovative. 44 kindergartners, but only 18 6th graders. Where did they go? Hola experiences attrition just like the rest of Hoboken schools. Where will you find the kids for Spanish immersion in the upper grades?

    1. Yes, please tell us where you will find these kids?

No one has to look too hard to see that Hoboken Charters High School is 90+% black/Hispanic. These students mostly are from Bayonne, JC and West NY.

  9. Due to poor curriculum parents are pulling their kids out of Hola, right and left. Heard it was a mass exodus. Parents really unhappy.

  10. Regarding Hoboken Charter - If there is a mass exodus after 8th grade and out of town kids are imported from the surrounding towns - Then what is the point of keeping the Hoboken Charter High School? Especially if the Hoboken residents do not want to send their children there? What's really the problem over there?
