Mason turns on longtime political ally Steve Fulop, tries to buy election for opponent Healy |
The news GA broke yesterday, that Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason and hubby Ricky, gave an astounding $46,000 campaign contribution to Jersey City Mayor Healy's political committee (Team Healy Forward 2013) is breaking hard over in Jersey City.
In fact, it's already become an issue in the Jersey City mayoral race. Local blogs have picked it up, which means it should break in the mainstream media just in time for the May 14th Primary election. From the Jersey City Desk:
More than that, it's infuriated the Fulop camp, bewildered that Beth Mason would flip on a dime and betray those who 'had her back' for years in Hoboken elections. How did Mason repay her political comrades?Beth Mason must like Mayor Healy a WHOLE lot, $46,000 WHOLE lot
The Grafix Avenger tipped us off below that big money in Hoboken is actually trying to influence the Jersey City mayor's race. Grafix Avenger puts a handy bow on top of the $46K number by pointing out it is a full 7% of Healy's contributions. One wonders what Mason was hoping to get for her $46K. Follow the link to the full story.
With a $46K knife in the back. One of them was absolutely seething and said this:
The Fulop Mason connection goes back at least 8 years when many DFA (Democracy for America) members from Hoboken came to work for Fulop in his first run for office. Jake Stuiver was one of them.Wow. Why would Mason plant a shiv in Fulop's back like that when his people pulled out all stops for her?
When Mason ran for Mayor Fulop's main advisor Tom Bertoli went to work for her at Jake's urging along with other Fulop workers but left the campaign because it was such a clusterf*ck. She just would not listen. She has always tried to mimic what Fulop does but the difference is she has to pay everyone and all the Fulop people are volunteers. When you put too many paid people in the room no one really works. She has always been jealous of the Fulop organization and can't figure out why she can't buy one.
The HCDO has offered her a spot on a future ticket for her open checkbook now.She is desperate to get out of Hoboken since she knows her days are numbered. What she should worry about is Tom Bertoli who basically ran the Tim Occhipinti Campaign for free just to prove a point. Bertoli who is originally from North Bergen has been involved in some of the only successful recall elections in NJ history.
That's what Jersey City political insiders are asking.
Because if Beth Mason would stick a $46,000 shiv in an ally's back, no one can trust her.
Well, the source reports that Mason bought a gig at the County with her $46K. That's if Healy wins.
There's no walking back over bridges burned.
Seems like a reckless bet - Jersey City is ripe for a change. Reform will now be the norm.
ReplyDeleteTo the extent that honest and ethical people in Hoboken (and beyond) would have supported Fulop for greater change in our County, that support ended when he formed an unholy alliance with the ever-toxic Mason and all that this disturbed woman and her sycophants stand for. In so doing, Fulop created for himself a special category of politician: The best of the worst. Reform voters are likely to sit this election out, giving Healy the win.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Steve - you coulda been somebody; you coulda been a contender.
Everything is relative. Except for Newport, JC is a mess.
DeleteI was born there and have relatives that live there. A lot of $ has come to the Healy camp lately and endorsements from Obama & Bloomberg - IMO not enough to overcome the need for change....Fulop will most likely prevail. I see no '3peat'.
After meeting Fulop I thought of a used car salesman. He just strikes me as disingenuous and not a reformer. I likened him to Cammarano.
DeleteAnonymous, JC has its problems, but Newport is one of them, and is its own mess. It's a hideously conceived, poorly constructed, disjointed collection of buildings that do nothing to create community. It is clearly designed for a transient population. They don't vote, they don't contribute to the community and given the size of the buildings, they don't contribute much to the tax base because of their PILOT status. Who won with this? Corrupt politicians and developers like LeFrak who have tried to recast themselves as philanthropists after many decades of building / owning / operating some of the ugliest low-income housing in NYC. That was their standard.
DeleteOh so now we're getting veiled threats from the naked man's guys. We're quaking in our boots here. You can't lay a glove on us. Keep dreaming.
ReplyDeleteI never really considered Fulop a reformer, not when the guy was supporting anti-reformers against reformers in Hoboken.
ReplyDeleteThe 46K seems like such an odd number, why 46? Did she give the money before Healy started seeing imaginary preteen Hispanic girls playing with garbage can lids?
ReplyDeleteI'd bet anything the hispanic girl story is true - a classic Gerry McCann/Arnold Williams orchestrated event like the "pooperazi" fiasco in Hoboken only this one worked out beyond their wildest imaginations.
DeleteThey set it up hoping to snap an embarrassing picture but who could have predicted that a drunk Healy would go outside in nothing but a towel and then pass out. Healy was set up but that's kind of beside the point.
as for the $46,000 - that's an interim #. The legal max is $52,000 and unless the publicity cuts off the last 2 checks that's likely what Mason promised to give.
Hiya Johnny A!
DeleteHey G.A.!
DeleteAnonymous? You'd bet anything on something unproveable eh? Sly.
anon, what this "pooperazi fiasco in Hoboken" you mention? i'm not familiar with it, do tell.
DeleteHoly Cow, it's Johnny Action Space Punk by way of JC in da house! Welcome to Hoboken!
DeleteThanks Smarty! Rarely do our cities interact so salaciously lol
DeleteFulop's only a reformer compared to Healy - Remember - "A reformer is only a reformer until he/she gets elected." lol
ReplyDeleteIf Fulop is a 'used car saleman' what impression does one get of Healy... a _ - _-#/? A Jersey City Mayor, of course.
