Swan Song

"Swan song" is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement. The phrase refers to an ancient belief that the Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) is completely silent during its lifetime until the moment just before death, when it sings one beautiful song. The belief, now known to be incorrect, had become proverbial in Ancient Greece by the 3rd century BC, and was reiterated many times in later Western poetry and art.

*sigh*

We knew the day would come when the Big Guy withdrew his Hoboken Journal shingle to move on to other pastures.   Well folks, today's the day.

That's right.  Our big, lovable, Gyspy Galoot has moved on to a new cyber-pasture, TheBokenOnline.com  full-time.

You may know that GA started being GA as a contributor on The Hoboken Journal. But after he went on indeterminate hiatus back in March 2010 I decided to hang out my own cyber-shingle.

So you have Kurt to blame or thank for Grafix Avenger.

I will really miss that big galoot's presence on our Team- three friends (Kurt, Da Horsey and myself) with very different styles, strong personalities, and voices. We've had our tiffs. But we all are support open, honest government and the efforts of the Zimmer Administration to take us there.   Tiffs, shmiffs.

Kurt was the first to strike out on his own with a progressive alternative to you-know-who; a pioneer in the Reform wing of Hoboken's blogosphere.  Then came Da Horsey.

GA adores you two boys.

Kurt, thanks for all you've done for all of us these past 3 years.  GA wishes you great success in your new venture.

And of course, you ARE our next Freeholder.

XO,
GA
