Beth Jovi

Congratulations to The Bank Robber, winner of yesterday's Name That Tune!

TBR correctly identified the music that opens and closes Beth Mason's new video, "Beth Mason on Pay-to-Play" as being the handiwork of New Jersey's own wildly-successful band, Bon Jovi, the song is "We Weren't Born to Follow".

Was the blend of Beth and Bon Jovi, or Beth-Jovi, the videographer's idea? Or is the Councilwoman a Bon Jovi fan?

I understand a lot of New Jerseyans are, and even feel a sense of pride that they come from our state. Which I've never understood, because (no offense) I think the success of Bon Jovi tells how this culture rewards mediocrity when it comes in a pretty package. Am I wrong, ladies? Isn't Jon pretty? And Richie Sambora... he's not pretty, he's a dish. In my view, the bulk of their female fans have closet dreams of sleeping with them, and the male ones want to BE them: good-looking, wildly popular rock stars. Am I wrong? Or is their music great?

Well, that's your opinion.

Amazing though, that Bon Jovi has been around for 27 years. If Mason wasn't a fan from their breakout Slippery When Wet days (1986), she may be now, and the song "We Weren't Born to Follow" is off their 2009 album, The Circle.

Here's the chorus:

Yea, Yea, Yea,
We Weren't born to follow
Come on and get up off your knees
When life is a bitter pill to swallow
You gotta hold on to what you believe
Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow
And that your saints and sinners bleed
We weren't born to follow
You gotta stand up for what you believe
Let me hear you say
Yea, Yea, Yea, ooooohhh, Yea

Yea Yea Yea, oooooohhh, Yea.

You gotta stand up for what you believe.

Whatever that is.

  1. To each his/her own. I'd rather watch paint dry than even fantasize about Jon & Richie. Give me Richard Thompson any day.

  2. Council porn. Brings back memories of when I thought things were funnier. Maybe they'll be funny again.

  3. Info- if you remember thinking things were funnier then perhaps your humor-device is still intact, just under-utilized. All with good reason, dust it off at your own pace- or don't if you're not feeling it.

Without laughter, I'd be dead. I hope it comes back for you.
